I have a question about what happened to Lance at the Tuscarora 50.  First let me say I am not trying to be a Monday morning quarterback.  And if I was so smart why didn't I use my esp and warn Lance and the team before it happened.  I am not trying to be a smart ass.

But I have read a lot of articles and saw interviews with Lance after the race., and I have yet to hear any answer.   Why didn't Lance have a spare visor or complete helmet on the pit mule? I know they use a 4 wheeler , you get my point.   I only ask the question; because I know the oil leak was a freak occurrence, but getting hit with mud or rocks or debris isn't.   I don't want to start another discussion on rocks or not at Port Royal Speedway.   I am asking what if he would have broken his shield in the first 25 laps?   Would they have not changed it based on him driving the last 25 laps almost blind.   A broken visor or oil covered is still not being able to see.   All I am trying to find out is did the team not have a visor or helmet or fresh gloves?  If they didn't then that was an expensive lesson to learn. And anyone who has raced has learned many expensive lessoms.  I bet if you check with teams starting this weekend going forward with all the big money races coming up in Central Pa.  They will all have spare visors,  helmets, gloves and steering wheels on the pit buggies.

I noticed that at Nats. Sammy had 3 helmets, that was several years ago but would guess he still has more than 1

I'm sure they were worried about getting the oil leak fixed and oil back in.  However, I would have thought he could have someone put tear offs on.

Really????  Your gonna resort to name calling and insults????  GTFO.  Logan was in position and it was his night. Good for him and his guys, they earned/deserved it.  That's all that needs to be said.

Pits are in the infield. It's not like he could drive back to the trailer. Chances are he probably didn't have a spare helmet anyhow.  Wagner was fast all night, let's give credit were it's due.  I was amazed that after being covered in oil he stayed on track, that engine would have come apart and started an oil fire it would not have been pretty. I'm sure he felt the motor was not laboring and still had power, was probably the only reason he stayed out there. At his age and the team nobody has anything to prove, he could have easily pulled it in and called it a night.

Lance said in one of those interviews that the visor is 2 pieces and there was a film of oil between them that they couldn't get cleaned out. Along with that, we watched lance's son run back through the infield pits, across the track and then come back with tear offs in plenty of time so that wasnt the issue.  I would also guess they never lost oil pressure.  Probably why he didnt pull in.

According to the always good discussion on the Sprintcarunlimited podcast (you should subscribe if you don't - worth the $), it will be the last time you see Lance without a spare helmet close by.

What's sad is that we are getting to the time of the year where there isn't much racing left (pretty much all done in my area except for a couple of specials) and this will be the most exciting topic.  Rats.

At the Knox Nats this year I sat by a couple from Pa. Of course we talked racing. Lance came up in a conversation. They referred to him as DaWeasel.

Thought I'd add this to the thread.

But why add it to a thread about oil, tear-offs, visors, and helmets?  Bad day ???

Don't be sad yet. After a few weeks off for end of the year races at other tracks Port Royal will race through the end of October. I am sure there is a couple guys who can start some long threads about them.
