Earlier this year Jame McFadden who resides in Australia chose to stay home and not race the first few WoO races until his child was born.  WRG gave him an "exemption" for this and he got points for not even being there.  Now Cade Dillard has asked the WoO late model officials to miss a single race and not get any points so he can attend his daughters first ever day of school.  They said no.  Cade has chosen family over WoO and is dropping off the tour and will pick and choose the rest of the year.  Can anyone explain how WRG makes their decisions on things like this?  It is basically the same thing, yet different results for each one.  Someone help me out.

I imagine the difference is that McFadden was not allowed to travel, because of covid restrictions.

This is not the case.  It is a well known fact that he could have come over whenever he chose.  There were a few others that even went from the U.S. (Zearfus).  He has admitted he waited for the birth of his child.

I believe you when you say the real reason was the birth if his child but I thought I read a WoO article that said the "official " reason was covid restrictions. Perhaps I am mixing stories.

But the OP brings up an interesting question.  Here is a solution. Keep your child home for 2 days and Dad can still be there for their 1st day!!!

Your child has many first days of school. Your child is only born once. Not on the same level.

I disagree with this. This is her first ever day of school like ever ever. That is a moment you will never get back as a parent. Even as a non parent i see that as more significant than just a first day of school in 4th grade. He didn't want points he didn't want anything other than to be able to attend the one event that will never happen again for his daughter. The first time you send your kid to school. Props to Dillard. This is a bad look by WRG in my opinion

It's okay to disagree.... however I'm confident if you polled most parents, like myself, the birth of your child is more important and life changing than attending your kids first day of school.

I'm in no way saying it's not important but usually the first day of school is dropping them off, or walking them to the door of the school.

Again, not on the same level.

I think its ridiculous the WOO wont leave Dilliard miss a night due to family committments which his taking his daughter to school and picking her up most surely is! He was going to be there for the rest of the WOO weekend in Pa and Ohio but I can see why they told him no they have a whopping 22 cars tonite at Orange County!

That series that can't afford to lose drivers due to pettiness. The Lucas Oil roster is way better. WOO LM drivers only managed 1 in the top 5 at Williams Grove and it wasn't even a great field(27 cars).

If Mcfadden came to the states, raced for a week or two then flew home for the birth of his child. He would have had to quarntine for 2 weeks . Tight time frame, It was easier not to roll the dice.

I think it's obvious the folks making these decisions for the WoO Sprints is different than for the WoO Late Models.   The WoO Sprints have given exemptions to no less than 6 drivers this year for various reasons....

Bill Rose 56 Races (Injury/Recovery)

Mason Daniel was getting points while going through concussion treatment until he official retired.

Brock Zearfoss a few races for concussion (after going through 6 cars in 2-3 weeks)

Sides a month was it? for trailer totalled

Jacob Allen - Bristol exmption, not comfortable

McFadden - delayed travel due to birth of child.

I'm not debating the merrits of ANY of the above exemptions, membership has it's perks, but seem like alot of wiggle room on the Sprint side with none on the Late Model side is all I'm saying.

Side Note:  PPM did not get an exemption on the Sprint side to run a Non WoO race sponsored by his sponsor, after being told the exemption would be given.  This led to him dropping off the tour.

The beginning of the 2021 Sprint season looked to be the strongest rookie class in recent memory or ever, but none of the original 4 vying for it have competed in all the races as "required" by WoO rules (Ruetzel, PPM, Zearfoss, McFadden).

Sorry for the ramble, just some random thoughts on the topic.

They do give exemptions as well on the Woo late model as well but your childs !st day of school isnt one of them apparently and instead of using common sense which is a rarity in  yhis day and age to say of course stay home and join us friday at WG they played hardball and lost a driver.
