I say leave it alone! Better than passing points for me anyway! I can go to the races and follow the format without having to have a pen and paper and a calculator!

That's the main reason I don't like passing points too.

"Maybe the top 4-6 timers go straight to the dash and the rest run heat races with the winners added to the dash?"

Hmm, interesting idea...

Next question is how would you line up the heats?

At that point, does it really matter how they're lined up? There's a myriad of possibilities:

From a WoO point of view: line-up by time, fastest in the front

From a local racer point of view: line up by time with fastest in the back

From a random point of view: pull number out of a hat

From a left field point of view: line up in the reverse order you went out to time. That way, if you got the short end of the stick because you timed later, you'd get the long end of the stick because you timed later.

From out of space point of view: Split the cars up by time into heats. For three heats, put the fastest 3 in heat 1, the next fastest in heat 2 and the slowest in heat 3. Talley up finishing points, passing points, timing points, whatever points. The fastest cars still end up in the A main and none of the traveling WoO cars have to load up early.
