Just got into my hotel room in Des Moines after taking in my first Knoxville experience at the Captani. Super cool...

Planning to hit Oksy tomorrow. Looking all over online and can't find any information for when it starts. Any help?

16 views. No replies. What a weird promotion blunder.

I've been searching all over. No soup. I even found a promotional poster with a phone number to call for more info. Oddly enough when you call the number it comes back with a response that the number hasn't set up a voice mail box yet...

If you've never gone you should but the track isn't great for sprint car racing in my opinion and all the other over played antics that you've seen at every other race track....meh

Agreed. Go once, get some beads that you will throw in the trash on your way out and then you can decide if you want to go again next year. Usually the racing is not very good but worth seeing the track one time.

My experience with the FRC over the years is they'll start whenever they want to, time on a flyer is just a number. Most times it just comes down the the weather and whether they over water or under water the track. Rain chances will speed up the program, no chances of rain, be prepared to sit awhile. For me, I'm on vacation for 10 days so I'm not bothered by it. I do buy tickets early so I'm in the covered stands on the top row to catch any souther breeze if there is one. Tonight will be a HOT one with little wind and Heat Index expected to be close to 108 so I suspect a little later start. Perfect night to watch the guy dripping sweat into the Kettle Korn while it cooks, adds a little tang to it you won't find anywhere else. Talking about the heat, wonder how many people choose to watch shows on Dirtvision or Flo around the country in the convenience of their own homes , whether the weather has any influence or not? I've skipped a couple of shows this year but NOTHING compares to being there, it hasn't seemed to hurt crowd counts much watching them on FLO but interesting to know what the compensatin packages are for these races tarcks when their shows are broadcast on any MEDIA.

I have never been to the FRC, I have been to the track though it's been years. If you are looking for the "experience" that is involved with the lore of this event, it's a far better idea to head to the infield as opposed to sitting in a seat, correct? I'm en route there currently so whatever ticket I get is fine I just wondered if there was a specific recommendation.

I don't recall the FRC ever paying $30K to win, but I could be misremembering. It's been a lot of different things over the years - the original grab was the $50K to win from the back though. It paid $5K to win from any other spot for most years IIRC. I know it's been sanctioned a few times - Gumout, All Stars, feel like maybe one year they even ran 360s under ASCS banner? Maybe that was the Tuesday race.

The wingless cars used to pay $30K straight up on Tuesday for the Ultimate Challenge, but that's now a thing of the past.

I'd agree that there's been some very good FRCs, but I feel like more are typically a bore than not. It seems throughout the years they've also dealt with weather quite a bit - feel like there's been several times with a late start time after having to work the track all night after rain, which has understandably lead to some weak racing.

It's a nice event overall - especially if you enjoy partying. Pretty good atmosphere for that. Osky isn't the greatest facility, it's got a covered grandstands, which is a little nice for the nostalgia factor, but it gets very loud and if it's hot, it gets a little unbearable - you get packed in pretty tight there.

No, they did away with the actual "Front Row Challenge" thing cause nobody was dumb enough to try it any more. Last time I went, which was several years ago, they were offering different $$$ incentives to take handicaps. I fergit if anybody went for it....

Is it a party? Absolutely.

Was there a single pass in a heat race after the start of each race? Not a one.

Hope it gets better. To each their own. I would prefer to see a good race. I didn't drive across country to get wasted with strangers. Again, to each their own.

Pretty typical Osky track. It's my hometown track and heats races even with fenders are typically a train. Such large gentle corners make it hammer down when wet. Track was probably over watered but sometimes the surface there slicks off fast. I think they expected a few more cars but the last 10 laps of the A show what the track is capable of but we would have liked to seen it take that shape earlier in the evening for sure.
