Did Kyle make a mistake in not going low into turn 1 on the two lap restart at Lake Ozark Speedway last night allowing Schatz to slide him and win the race? My opinion is that Kyle screwed up.

Hey! I was just looking for the opinions of others. I don’t think my post deserved your nasty reply.

I think Schatz had the car and Larson was screwed when that caution flag came out. No reason to make it any more complicated than that.

I agree. Schatz had gotten by him on the restart prior but it looked like a little bobble in between 3&4 allowed Larson to get back by. I also think Schatz was a little better off being second on the restart with how tricky turns 1&2 were. I think the leader was a sitting duck

If it had stayed green, Brad Sweet would have smoked them both.

Kyle said in his post race interview that he thought he'd made a good exit out of 2, and thought he had it covered. He admitted his mistake and explained different ways he should finished the race off that might have had a better result. In the end he said Donny is the king of running through the middle so he knew he was up against it.

Donnie, as usual, saved his tires and Larson slid up the track. Race over.

Kyle did go low in turn 1 on the last restart. Just like he'd ran the entire race. He then went high in turn 3, just like he'd ran the entire race. It had worked for a whole bunch of laps. If he would have changed his line and lost people would have questioned why he changed. How was he supposed to know Don would get a little better run off turn 2 that particular lap and get in position to execute the slide job? Hindsight is 20/20. Kyle didn't do anything wrong. He just got beat by the best sprint car driver in the world the last 15 years.

Totally agree. And yet some bozo criticizes the guy asking the question....

I think Schatz had a good car, and Sweet may have had the best car at the end. The 2nd to last caution saved Larson from getting passed in traffic.

It's all in how you look at it. If he had donme it differently there's no saying he would have won.
Listen to the tone of Johhny Gibson's voice when the last yellow came out. He seemed to sense that Larsen was going to be in a tough spot.

Kyle is an elite driver, no questions asked. Donny is an elite driver with 25 years more experience doing this 100 nights a year every year. Donny had to move around to pass cars to get into second, Larson only had to move around to pass lap cars. Regardless of who is in the lead if Donny is moving forward in the race and is in 2nd with a green, white, checker... I'll pick him to win 95 times out of 100.
My $0.02

And if Kyle were in second on the final restart I would have given him a 95% chance of finding a way around Donnie given the same track conditions.

The great thing about this is that we can all debate because we have DirtVision and can watch these races live.

I saw the same thing as you. Could have been that Schatz was a little better, but I thought he lost his momentum coming out of 2 with 2 to go. Could have been a combination of Schatz being a little better and Kyle missing the corner.

these things happen all the time on a late race yellow. The second place car is just waiting to see what you do so he can do opocite. Schautz has been racing almost more years than young money is old. That pays off. The lead car has to decide what he will do, he is screwed if he guesses wrong. No big deal. Schautz is probably the best dry track WOO driver out there right now. Nuff said.
