I assume those of us who don't live near Osky and have responsibilities other places acrss the world are forbidden from following along and showing interest in the races again this year? I don't see anything listed on Dirtvsion and KNIA KRLS said they would not be broadcasting.

Correct. Always been this way for some reason. Stopped trying to figure out years ago. It sounds like it's to keep the intimacy, which is fine, because I can't think it's a good financial decision. Up to the promoters discretion though, and they obviously get to make the decision they want. Hope they have a great crowd and race!

I attended several times...nothing intimate about an entire infield filled drunken messes.
Lincoln 1845 ft/.35 mile T1=118MPH
Eldora 2287 ft/.43mile T3=135MPH
Port 2716 ft/.51 mile T3=TBD
Grove 2792 ft/.53 mile T3=135MPH
Selinsgrove 2847 ft/.54 mile T1=136MPH

Hasn't this dead horse been beat enough? A one off race created to reach all of the people that are doing the entire 10 days of Knoxville. Getting those said people out of the camp grounds to the track is the whole purpose of the race. Having the audio available for those at the campground would kill the gate. It makes perfect sense to me and always has.

Well stated! Grandstands get bombarded by bead throwers and chasers...not sure which upsets more most, lol! missing The nationals for first time in 23 years, going to Italy for two weeks instead.

Must be why Knoxville doesn't broadcast any audio or video of their races this week. Obviously kills the gate.

Knoxville does audio of every sprint race every week including nationals. Like I said in a different thread it’s 95.3 now instead of 92.1. It was a bad move by KNIA KRLS but it is what it is. Still can get it online too just scroll down a little further.
Osky is a different animal. We talk about this every year. It’s clearly a gate issue.

Sorry, I was being sarcastic.
And I just flat out disagree with the idea it's a gate issue. Thousands of fans outside of Iowa who can't make the trip who are willing to pay to watch.
Knoxville was way ahead of the curve on this years ago, even when they fought to fill the stands for Nationals. You're seeing more and more tracks, races and series embrace streaming because of the additional revenue.
Honestly, I feel like something like FRC wouldn't get hurt more than 10% at the gate because of a webcast, and I truely feel that's an absurdly high number. I'd trade that 10% for my cut on a worldwide audience in a heartbeat. I'm not sure what Osky seats, but let's call the FRC sellout at 3K, I'm giving up 300 paid entry fees for thousands of potential viewers. Even at a paltry pickup I'm going to make more revenue. Makes me shake my head. Maybe my numbers are way off. Doesn't feel like it though.

Ahhh sorry. Completely missed the sarcas! I understand your points. I think for a weekly show like Knoxville it makes total sense to continue to keep people interested if they can’t make a week. I for instance listen while on vacation. One night show like FRC? I guess I see it either way with probably not lining up audio or video as the easiest and least risky option.

You guys do know that SpeedShift could simply put 150 mile radius of Osky and blackout the broadcast. Problem solved

Agreed! It was nearly a packed grandstand and a full infield. I doubt it lasts another year!

I think the concern, valid or not, is that if you put it on video or even audio, a ton of people who camp at Knoxville will just stay there and watch/listen with their buddies. It’s a different animal with normal races because you don’t have thousands of sprint car fans hanging out 20 miles away from your track.

Thousands of race fans don't converge on an area to camp.

Sacrificing most of my season for two weeks in Norway so I feel your pain. Let's hear it for the racing fans who take one for the team so they can make their wives happy.

Are you disagreeing with his rounded number for simple conversation or the way people live to protect themselves from the elements and level of 1st world conveniences during the time reffered to?
Even though I may not know you, I

I'm not even sure you're asking me a question here, I think you are - what I'm saying is that when a shitload of outsiders come to Iowa for the Nationals, they don't come to sit in the campground and watch races, they come to go to races.

I've watched the live races online from Osky the past 3 years via periscope app. I even mentioned it on here last year. These race promoters who dont offer video on a deal like these races at Osky are missing the opportunity for extra cash. You only have to media blackout 50 miles around Osky to maintain a good gate and then you're going to rake in some good extra dough on viewers all over the country/world. Nah, just blackout all professional media make zero dollars from it and have people watch for free via periscope app or similar streaming service. Hell a savvy person could easily bootleg out a stream of Knoxvilles internal video feed as well without fail. It's not hard people. So leave yourself vulnerable to bootlegging or embrace online pay per view streaming those are the choices today.
Cheers!
