Some things never change, and never will sadly.

I thought Minnesotans were supposed to be nice? Perhaps it was a rougue Sconnie who crossed the boarder and is giving Minnesotans a bad name.

"Hey Toony, eye gat two of dem." Haha.

I need more context before making a full judgment, but my snap reaction is that Tony has way too much to lose to be lured into a fracas like that.  Waaaaay too much.

Same here.  I'd have to know a lot more about who he went after and why.   As far as I'm concerned I really don't care one way or another.   Many people in the pits at racetracks are hotheads.   Are we going to act surprised that a fight broke out in the pits?

Picked a good state. 5th degree misdemeanor assault hardly ever sees jail time in Minnesota as long as you don't actually hurt them. Max $1000 fine.

“Shocking” behavior. The racing community will be bought off once again and turn its collective head.

Self control seems to be lacking in our sport lately.  Celebrities run into detractors all the time and most are able to keep their anger in check without attracting bad press and lawsuits.  The excuse that he was emotional because he just won a large sum of money doesn't apply this time.  Looks like his apologists are going with the "nobody f*cks with Tony because he has big balls" this time.  I don't dislike the guy but I feel kind of sorry for him that he feels the need to go after some drunken loud mouth.

Bad press and expensive.  Take note freeloaders who need money and think the way to riches is to povoke a celebrity who has known anger issues.  Wowz what a contrast.  Our Forest Lake home town hero Brooke Tatnell was down there with his little eight year old crew chief setting a great example of family values and here's Tony mixing it up with mouthy fans.  I'll always be a bigger fan of those who set a good example of family values.  No heckler is worth abandoning those family values and projecting a good image of the sport.

Judging by the reaction of the crowd and the commotion, sounds like the guy was trying to provoke Stewart. Like others said, need more context as the video only shows a fraction of the story. Would not be surprised if someone was trying to run their mouth thinking there were no repercussions either, which also seems to be happening alot as well

Great point.  Back in the 80s we had long legged trophy girls in bikinis and never had any issues.  Today we've.got fat bearded flagmen handing over trophies and all kinds of problems.  wink

Agree!!!  He is standing there with a Sharpie in his hand so I'm gonna assume signing autographs.  He obviously wasn't out looking for a fight so something really bad triggered that reaction.  I'm not gonna judge until I see the entire exchange or hear exactly what went on.

When a man like that does what he does for our sport, what reason would there be to provoke him unless you are classless?  Tony is FAR from perfect and someone looked to be feeding on that last night.

Sad.

99.9%  of drivers are going to ignore the drunks but there's always that one wealthy celebrity that can't handle it.  wink

There's nothing more wholesome and family friendly than a night at the dirt track. Keep these special memories close to your heart kids.

Speaking of family values and incidents at Jackson I just saw a post from Amy Tatnell that somebody snuck into their hauler and stole their money at Jackson.  They even got their eight year old son Garrett's sponsor money that one of the drivers gave him for his kart racing team.  And to add insult to injury they took rolls of quarters for the car wash.  This bothers me a lot more than anything said in victory lane or any of Smokes antics.  I live near these guys in Forest Lake and know the family so it's not just some random race driver this happened to but people I consider friends and neighbors.

We used to refer to that as a "blanket party" in the Navy.  Throw a blanket over the offender and they can't identify who's punching them.  Straightened out a few gooney birds that way.

Tony's reaction may seem over the top and with his celebrity status and ownership etc etc seems real bad for the sport. I'm not the 1st to say fight but let's remember the guy calling him on from a distance. He probably felt safe knowing Tony was far away, with many people in between and Tony looked smiley to start with. This might just be a thing that needed to be done cause the chump deserved it and Tony is really the hero for "protecting" the sport.

In short maybe the guy deserved it and if a no name did it know one cares.

Sometimes fisticuffs are better than handcuffs. Cheaper, faster ,better results.

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

Yeah there totally wasn’t fights in the pits in the 80s. If Anything, there is much much less fighting in the pit area these days compared to the 80s and 90s
