TKS Motorsports – It’s Time for Two

Dallas, TX (July 10, 2019) – Austin McCarl and the TKS Motorsports team bounced back from a long weekend at the Jackson Nationals by scoring a top five and tallying a great points night last Saturday at the Knoxville Raceway. This Saturday will have major ramifications in the points battle at Knoxville, as it will be double features for the 410s and plenty of points on the line for the Troy & Tammy Renfro-owned team!

Going out right in the middle of qualifying on Saturday night, Austin got the night kicked off with a fast lap. “We went out and qualified 3rd, which felt great since we’ve been struggling a bit in qualifying this season,” said McCarl. “Qualifying is always a crucial part of the night, but with how important it is for the Nationals, it feels good that we seem to have things going in the right direction.”

Picking up one spot in the Casey’s General Stores/Midwest Basement Systems #2KS during their heat race to finish fifth, the team acknowledged missing a bit on the setup. “We definitely had it too tight during the heat,” said Troy Renfro. “It ended up not effecting us too badly, as the invert for the feature ended up being an eight.”

Having accumulated the 4th most points during preliminary events, Austin would find himself rolling off on the inside of the third row for 20-lap main event. “We started fifth and I got out to a rough start,” said Austin. “We fell back to 8th or 9th early, which was largely due to my indecisiveness. The car felt pretty good running a few different lines on the track, but I couldn’t quite figure out where it was best.”

While he would fade early, McCarl would make his way back into the top five by the time the checkered flags waved. “I was able to get things figured out after both Brooke [Tatnell] and Trey [Starks] got past me and salvaged a pretty good points night, though some mistakes I made late probably cost us another spot,” Austin noted.

Renfro was happy with the clean weekend and the ability to roll the car into the hauler in one piece after ending the previous week upside down. “The bottom was pretty fast in the A-main, so passing was at a premium,” said Troy. “Austin did a nice job of getting back into the top five and it was nice to have a safe, clean night that sets us up well for this weekend. All in all, a pretty uneventful night, but in a good way.”

A busy weekend lays ahead for Austin and the TKS Motorsports team, as Saturday night will be double features with the makeup A-main from June 22nd. It will be a big night with double the money and double the points up for grabs!
