"If you wann make a million in racing, start with 2" -- Doug Wolfgang circa 1983.
Maybe not the first to ever say it, but first I remember.

If you want to make $3.6 million selling a racetrack, start with $200,000 of someone else's money.

I don't actually expect this to be the way it is but there is a chance the WoO officials have committed to running this event but give it zero promotion just in case it doesnt happen. There is no benefit for the WoO to promote this and push for a big crowd. If it happens they stroll in and run the show with all praise to them for co operating and if it doesnt happen nobody knows they we willing and they dont look foolish for committing to a pipe dream. As I said I doubt this is the case but the WoO would be wise to lay low until they need to show their hand.
This event needed a season of promo and planning to make it what it could have been. Full on full scale event with all the bells and whistles. Being rushed is foolish foresight.
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

The WOO have been around how long in racing? The people in charge there know all about Mr. Brennan.
I find it funny how the biggest race EVAH is only being promoted by Chuck and the fluff pieces he must be in charge of editing.
Most of your most prestigious sprint publications and websites have ZERO mention of this event. Just saying.
"Gimme fuel, Gimme fire, Gimme that which I desire!"

That made me think of a line out of the movie Wayne's World- "yeah- and monkeys might fly out of my butt"
The WoO people have full time jobs running real race programs. There's no reason for them to monkey around with a fantasy race for someone none to high on anybody's priority list. I doubt if they even return the guy's phone calls.

Lots of negativity here and probably deserved. That said, we should all be hoping this actually happens. I grew up going to Huset's with family and friends weekly - lots of memories. I moved away from SD right as the Badlands deal happened but I'd love nothing more to be able to take my young kids to Huset's sometime, just like my folks did with me.

Not picking on you, but I don't think you understand the tax situation clearly. A tax write off would be based on how much value was actualy lost in the transaction. Roughly speaking it's based on the (real, actual, provable) value of the property , minus the sale proceeds. You don't get to pretend with the IRS. It's not like Uncle Sam makes up the difference. The only tax break is that chuck wouldn't have to pay taxes on the loss amount. And he'd still have to pony up the money to tear the place down, and he'd have to convince a non-profit to take the property as park land.
In the end it still gets back to this: chuck won't tear the place down as there's no money to be recouped doing that. chuck won't have his fantasy race because there are too many things that would have to fall and the stars would have to align for it to happen. chuck won't find a sucker with a lot of money to pay what he wants for the place. The track will eventually sell for what someone is willing to pay for it. Anything else is just wishful thinking or just ordinary bullshit.

I would think donating the ground to a non-profit would be harder than it sounds. Chuck would need to spend a few bucks on an environmental study, etc. once everything were torn down.

Word on the street...
The WoO are going to sanction the event last minute and send all of their drivers there stacking the field to win the track then operate it like Volusia on the opposite side of your country.
Then all woo regulars loose right rears and Mark Dobmeiere gets the cash , sinks it all into next season and beats both Scahatz and Sweet by 200 points.
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!
