About 25 yrs ago I watched sprints on asphalt in Calgary. I recall they had wings. Track is gone now. Does anyone still race winged sprints on pavement? Where?
Since Tony can get the pavement trucks to race dirt I wonder if he could set up a 410 winged race on pavement. I'm not saying it's a good idea but how do you think the top 5 WoO or AllStars would make out.
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

Back about 25 years ago when I lived in Michigan I followed SOD a lot and ironically SOD stood for Sprints on Dirt yet they raced about half their season on pavement. The Tyler Brothers, Bill and Brian, Gary Fedewa and the Hurryin' Hoosier Hank Lower were some of the best out there. Another place where they race almost exclusively (or used to) on pavement, is South Africa. They used to come over here most years and a few of our guys would go over there, it was a nice exchange. Nobody and I mean nobody could drink like those South African racers and I've spent a lot of time in Australia, lol......

Some friends from Minot, ND went to Sauk Center Raceway (I-94 raceway next to I-94 interstate some 35+ years ago to watch winged sprints on asphalt. Sadly, I didn't go with, a 400 mile trip way back then was a long trip. Anyway the old NCRA (not sure if its the same NCRA in operation today) used to make a trip to the upper midwest, to ND, Nebraska, Minnesota, SD, etc. They were a winged series. They had a race at Minot, ND which I saw and one at I-94/Sauk Center, MN. Was curious to see them on asphalt(had wings) but didn't make the trip. They basically didn't change anything on the cars when switching to an asphalt track except maybe no-tread tires. I-94 was a highbanked 3/8 mile track and it changed to dirt after 10 or more years on asphalt. Now closed. I saw stock cars there once as we were headed to Minneapolis and it was a beauty of a place.

I'm from South Dakota and recently moved to Boise, Idaho. I spent my entire life attending races at various tracks around the midwest (Huset's, Jackson, Eagle, I-80, Knoxville, River Cities, etc). Once I got to Idaho I realized dirt track racing really dosent exist here.
Meridian Speedway here in Idaho is a 1/4 mile asphalt bullring and they regularly race winged and non winged sprint cars. Last weekend they had NSRA winged sprint cars (I believe 410's?) and a pretty good field as well. Admittedly, I'm pretty green to asphalt sprint cars and am still trying to get use to watching them but they're fast and fairly entertaining. Most of the drivers were from Canada with a few from other areas around the pacific northwest.

They run winged sprints at Western Speedway in Victoria, BC a few times a year. The Strawberry Cup is next weekend actually, which I believe is sanctioned by the NSRA.
