HAGEN TAKES CRA CHECKERED IN VEGAS Sunday, 28 October 2007
Las Vegas, Nevada......Darren Hagen of Riverside, Calif., piloted Keith Kunz's Advanced Racing No. 67 Bullet to a 20-lap USAC/CRA sprint car victory Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The win was Hagen's second USAC/CRA triumph of the season. It was also the second USAC/CRA win of the season for Kunz, who went to Las Vegas' victory lane back in March with driver Josh Wise.
Brady Bacon led the first 13 laps of the race until his Kasey Kahne No. 99 suffered a flat right rear tire exiting turn-four. Hagen then inherited the lead and went on the score the win. With the final five USAC National sprint races only a few days away, it was a big night for the "National" regulars. In fact, the top-three drivers in National Sprint Car points occupied the first three positions. Current USAC National Sprint car point leader Levi Jones, Olney, Ill, finished third in Glen Crossno's ITI Performance No. 97X, one spot behind the Pace Brothers Racing No. 44 Maxim driven by Dave Darland of Lincoln, Ind.
Mike Spencer, Temecula, Calif., continues to gnaw away at Tony Jones' USAC/CRA point lead. Driving the Ron Chaffin / Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply No. 50 Maxim to a fourth-place finish, Spencer now trails Jones (who finished seventh at Las Vegas) by only 50-points heading into next week's three-day $30,000-to-win show at the Perris Auto Speedway.
San Jose, California's Michael Trimble had one of his best runs of the season, driving the Kruseman Motorsports / Sander Engineering No. 21T Bullet to a fifth-place finish. Fresh of his second National sprint win of the season at Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, OH), Robert Ballou turned the fastest lap in qualifications.
