NATIONAL, WESTERN MIDGETS EYE NOV. 8 “COPPER WORLD;”
SWINDELL, PEDREGON TEAM FOR LAS VEGAS VICTORY

OCTOBER 29, 2007 --- The USAC National and Western Midget Car Series are gearing up for the Nov. 8 “Copper World Classic” at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway. A 25-mile feature is planned on the 1-mile paved oval in conjunction with USAC’s K & N Silver Crown Series.

The Western series competed Saturday at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway’s Dirt Track and three-time World of Outlaws Champion Sammy Swindell and three-time U.S. Nationals drag racing champion Cruz Pedregon teamed up to win the 20-lap feature. Swindell, of Germantown, Tenn., passed Hunter Scheurenberg on lap seven and led the rest of the way in his Advance Auto Parts Toyota to beat Darren Hagen, Michael Faccinto, Alfred Galedrige and Scott Pierovich.

Western Midget point leader Johnny Rodriguez finished 11th, but National Midget leader Jerry Coons Jr. was unable to start the feature despite earning a berth. Brad Sweet, the fastest qualifier, finished 18th.

Coons continues to lead the National series into the Phoenix race in search of a second consecutive championship. Rodriguez’ lead over Pierovich in the Western series stands at 94 points entering the Phoenix event.

The National and Western series conclude Nov. 22 in the 67th “Turkey Night Grand Prix” at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway.
