Noticed on the preliminary WoO 2008 schedule that WoO has scheduled races all through the middle and end of October - if that sticks - no Outlaws at 2008 STN.
I'm starting to not like WoO and the folks who run it at all. Guess most of you have felt the same way for quite some time now. I'm not sayin it just off the STN race next year. What WoO was talkin bout doin with the drivers T-shirts I thought was low. I'm sure they could make reasons to try and justify that, but .......... well I guess there are a lot of different things wrong with them right now. O well - I ain't seen em race in 4 years (maybe more) and don't much anticipate doing so anytime soon. I've had my fill of watching Gary Wright dominate ASCS - and Wright is a classy guy - most accounts I here about SChatz are the opposite.
Sorry no matter all those thoughts - WoO has been idle the last couple years on that weekend - guess I was just thinkin wishfully to continue seeing some Outlaw drivers there. But no matter - it will always be a great show. This year was my 1st STN - but I hope I can make it every year on out.

I think you can go either way on this subject. To me i am siding with the Outlaws.... they don't have to form there schedule around the STN!! Is the STN sanctioned by the Outlaws?? No. The Outlaws have plenty of tracks that want them to put a show on for them. And try driving from California, to Iowa, then to Pennsylvania, back to Minnesota, out to California, and then to Charlotte. It's alot of driving. If the Outlaws wanted to be there.. you would have seen more than the 4-5 that showed up. Don't quite me on that.. but wasn't it just Meyers, Shaffer, Hafertepe?? Didn't even make 5. I think the Outlaws enjoyed this weekend off to repair for the finale. If they wanted to be there.. more would show up.
Things change to. The Outlaws schedule isn't like it use to be.. starting out in Las Vegas and ending in Las Vegas! They aren't required to be at the STN. I personally like starting out in Florida with everybody else which includes much of the PA Posse. And ending in Charlotte where i'm sure just as many cars will be there as in the opener at Florida.

I think it's good for some WoO drivers to be there. It gives the 360 a chance to test their talents against the best. not just the best in the 360's - but the best from all parts really. even before the race it creates a good atmosphere of rivalry and I think the crowd - maybe all sprint car fans - anxiously await to see how 360's do against the 410's. And really that can;t be said either........PA Posse was repped - most ascs regions - NSCS kinda with the Doyle Car, non-wing racing was repped there as well - and many tracks as well - that list could go on. I would agree about keepin the Outlaws away if Kinser or Schatz showed up - but then again - what if they did and then got beat? - people would absolutely love it. and btw look the field over again - the field was primarily 360 drivers. yeah there were about a dozen maybe more that run 410's now........but how many of those that are vurrent 410 drivers have a healthy history of runnin 360's - especially ascs (Sides, Bruce, Hafertepe, Brian Brown, Pittman, even Stewart you could say) I'm sure you are in favor of 360 drivers testing their skills against 410 drivers - IN 410's - so why not support some 410 drivers runnin against 360's - WHILE RUNNING 360's????????????
I won;t respond in length to the other part. Suffice it to say you are probably not a fool - don;t do yourself the disservice of acting like one. You call me a moron on the basis that you don't agree - how does that make me a moron? and at the same time - how does that not make you a prick? And when I see crap like that - it makes me appreciate that the other folks I disagree with - or disagree with me - like Faster Pussycat, Wright-One, BRR, it's likely a LONG list - can still do it respectfully and decently. And hopefully if they are cool fellas they don't even judge me by it - I dont judge them by it. sprint car fans are cool folks - no matter their opinions. all are entitled to em - myself included).

It's kind of like a clash between corporate America and the Outlaw concept. Anymore the word Outlaw is pretty much a brand name owned by a corporation. The drivers that follow the Outlaws are the "product" so nowadays if they're hitting other shows that aren't benefiting the business during their season then it's money out of their pockets. Events like the Chili Bowl that happen during the off season are a different matter but the STN is in a sense a competitor. Don't think for a minute that they're not looking at the momentum this event is gaining each year and wishing it was a WoO sanctioned 410 race instead of a 360 show. That makes sense from a business standpoint but it doesn't set well with those of us who remember what the whole Outlaw thing was supposed to be in the first place.
Unfortunately, those days are gone. The only place you're going to find real outlaws barnstorming the country and not answering to anybody anymore is in a John Sawyer story.

My pick is Jesse Hockett. Not as many wins as Stewart but amongst others he raced against the WoO, All-Star's, USAC sprints and Silver Crown, ASCS (winged and wingless), URC and various other open shows this year. A true outlaw season.

For years I drove past the World of Outlaws' show at the Devil's Bowl on my way to the Short Track Nationals (which, in my opinion was a much better show for my money - even with a 600+ trip and motel bill). When Dirt bought Ted Johnson's rights - from what I understand - the WoO went up on their sanction fees and the Devil's Bowl ceased to book that weekend. That might be why the WoO has that weekend open now.
