So now that the season is winding down, I'm curious as to the current thoughts of those of you who were close to handing Donny's title over to Gravel. If you recall, more than once I warned those of you to not be so quick to anoint a new champion......especially in light of the fact that he must first out run Brad Sweet, and then Donny Schatz! It seemed like the Gravel bandwagon was overlooking Sweet, simply because Gravel had a breakout number of wins in 2017, yet still finished third behind Sweet. Since 2013 when each first showed up in the top 20 in WoO points, Gravel has finished the season ahead of Sweet just twice in the points standings. For now, I see Sweet getting more and more under control with his racing, while I see Gravel still trying things that just aren't there. He definately screwed himself up last night. Granted he was a victim of a ragged start, but then really messed up trying to get back towards the front of his heat. Out on a limb here, but Sheldon may actually get a better handle on race maturaty ahead of Gravel. Gravel is a hell of a racer, so don't get me wrong, but he does need to settle down some in the car imo.

Sheldon, really? Talk about getting ahead of yourself.
Gravels car doesn’t have the speed it did last year, it happens. The rainouts earlier in the year probably didn’t help.
KKR has been really good this year and had the JJ thing not happened, I think Pittman would have had a really good month of money.
Besting Schatz when he’s having a good year is almost impossible. He’s good everywhere, rarely crashes, and almost never has a bad night. Sweet, Gravel and maybe a few others have a shot at the title some day, but I think if Schatz keeps his interest level up, he’s got a good chance to get close to 20 championships.

I like both Sweet & Gravel. I think both of them will be contenders for years to come if they choose to continue the full time Outlaw route for the next decade or so. I however, will not nor have I ever assumed they would be taking the Outlaw title from Donny. The 15 just has not shown any signs of slowing down. He wins, and when he doesn't he is in the top 3-5.
Gravel has proven he can win and be fast but consistency seems to be an issue at times. This year they seem to have a little more bad luck & not as good of handle on the car.
Sweet seems consistent but can't seem to get the wins like the 15. If I had to put money on anyone beating Donny before anyone else I would put it on Sweet, but I don't see any signs of the 15 slowing down.
Of course a few years ago I thought Shane Stewart would be able to pull it off but for some reason that teams performance has been down the past couple of years

So Cory Eliason bobbling on the cushion and coming down on the 5's nose is somehow Gravel's fault now? Even Cory himself said it was his fault.
Sheldon started hot but has been pretty mediocre since then. Completely disagree with Sheldon having any kind of race maturity - it seems that he has a penchance for finding trouble running it too hard.
Still the 15s series. The wins and the ability to turn bad nights into top 5s is uncanny - the dude is just unreal good at what he does. He's running top 5 in 75% of Outlaw races. It's just absurd.

Is this a thread to share wonderings?
I think people that use an elipsis (...) in their thread title deserve a solid beating. You're not being cute. You're being a dooshnozzle. Yeah, that's harsh judgment, but its what I feel with regard to thread titles like that. Just title it appropriately and make your point.
With regard to your point, I think you have a good one. However, it might be better directed as someone specific as opposed to the "you guys" generality. I seem to recall some speculating a possible end to the 15 domination this season, but I don't reacall who exactly.

Clearly Sweet is ahead of Gravel at this pont, no argument there
Everybody has their ups & downs...

Did I not say that? That Gravel was a victim of a ragged start in his heat? I believe I did. But, he was in a transfer position and over drove a couple times and lost the transfer If I remember correctly. There are times when a driver needs to accept the hand that was dealt and settle in. Last nights heat may have been one of those times for Gravel to learn from. And I did not declare Sheldon being at a mature level yet. What I meant was that after five or six years Gravel hasn't shed some of his go for broke imaturity. I don't think it will take Sheldon that long. Plus, if Gravel hasn't shaken that trait by now, he just might never shake it. Of course these are just observations and opinions.

I predicted last year in a similar thread that gravel had a really really great year that would not be repeated for a really long time if ever. I dont think gravel is any better than Paul mcmahon and that team is right about the same as the the years when Paul was with them and I think that' where they are at and where they will stay. I also knew and predicted that sweet was Donnie biggest threat but I was worried when kale Khane his crew chief retired that he would struggle but he is just as good. I could be wrong but I'm going to name Logan as the building threat to challenge sweet to be the #2 man with woo as long as he was gaining more financial help
