It’s time to raise the Kings Royal winners purse. Race should have paid 100k to win for a long time.

Just texted this to a buddy. Agreed wholeheartedly. I understand Eldora is a bit different as they can sell tickets to anyone in Ohio (at least for the KR, not sure on other events) but I was told probably 25K people there. I'd be surprised if the gate wasn't a million tonight.

One more thing, 50k in 1984 with inflation is 120k in 2018.
For 35 events, same purse, more people there now than ever. It’s time to pay these guys what they’re worth.

I'm not against raising the purse, but I can see why it has stayed the same all these years. When you have near record breaking attendance each year & have 50 plus cars each year, I can see why they have not changed the winners share.
Again I'm not against raising it but can see why it's the same. A few years ago they did add money through the field to make the overall purse pay more. These things I let other people that have a financial stake in the process resolve. I focus more on buying a ticket to as many races I can & enjoying the events

You beat me to it Nick. Economics 101---supply and demand. I would love to see the purse doubled for this race. But why, as a business, would you do anything to increase your expenses when business is good? It makes no sense.
When your stands are jam packed, what extra steps must be taken at this point?

They raised the purse a few years back and added a night which made the event Bigger than ever. i get what youre Saying, but it’s frustrating to hear biggest crowd ever and see stagnant purses at the top.

I get what you're saying also. Unfortunately the important people that need to be more frustrated in order for it to get done are the drivers/owners. It would be great to see higher purses across the board and everyone make more money. Just unfortunately will not get done under current conditions with attendance from teams & fans.

They raised the purse and got the biggest crowd. If they can't fit more fans, they are paying and charging exactly the correct amount. I know what your intentions are for the post----more money would be "fair". However, it's a business and much like a restaurant, when my joint is packed, and I'm making money, I'm not going to lower my prices---or give away my profits

Increasing it to a 100,000 to win race just gives Schatz, Sweet, Gravel someone like that an extra 50K.
Make it 7500 to start keep Zearfoss, Balog, Starks, Henderson guys like that coming back......

For those that haven't heard yet the 50/50 winner share is $50,199. Not that much more than Donny.

50k today has the buying power of 20k in 1984. Earl was ahead of his time and it’s time for the current regime to catch up.
Frankly if you raise the top purse to 100k, you can raise the ticket prices by a couple of bucks also and with likely 20k people there last night, a 3 dollar increase would cover it all.

I wonder what the split on the 50/50 is in terms of how many dollars were put in at the track versus online purchases.

Absolutely the way to go. Could even spread additional money into the D,C and B. That may increase an already good car count, also.

I'll take it a step further and go on record as not giving a damn what any race pays. Purses are a business decision driven by economics. If an event pays enough to attract a field of the top drivers in the sport and can make a profit they have accomplished their goal. If participation in the event starts to decline then it is their business decision to determine how they'll address that. Often times a purse can be raised but doesn't have any effect on the number of cars. Other factors are how many cars are potentially available to run an event and will rasing the purse convince those teams to attend? If raising the purse isn't going to result in a significant increase in cars it's a business decision to not throw more money at it.
One of my pet peeves, seeing one of those posters with the over the top artwork promoting a race and right smack dab in the middle is a breakdown of the purse. I have seen high paying races that were yawners and awesome limited motor non-wing races. The importance of fans knowing the purse structure is overrated as it has never affected my decision on whether I should attend a race. What I do concern myself with is the cost of a pit pass because that will have a direct impact on my bottom line.
Anyone basing their race attendance on the purse should probably quit going to races and get a job as a accountant. Then they can be stimulated by the challenge of balancing the bottom line. Me on the other hand, I'm retiring at the end of the month after close to 40 years in transportation accounting and I don't want to see another T-shirt with the damn purse on it.

What was the price per ticket breakdown, kids-adults. and how many kids were in attendance? Regardless, it's a money windfall for sure, but its his risk and the overhead to produce that event is probably mind blowing, too. The costs include a multitude of things other than just the purse.

Or to put it another way. If I get an opporunity to attend a pro sporting event, Vikes, Twins, Wild in my case, I don't pour over the rosters to make sure I agree with the economics of the event before saying "yeah, I'll go". I can't imagine myself saying to a friend offering me a ticket "no, I'm OK with the Vikes but I'd like to see Aaron Rodgers have a better contract so I'll sit this one out". Could anyone imagine a Vikings/Packers advertisement listing each player and coaches salary or what they make per game?
I imagine at this point in my analogy someone will bring up Aaron dating Danica or them boycotting the NFL for some reason and they'll miss the whole point that I don't give a damn about the money. So that we can calm those kinds of folks who wear their shorts too tight down we could say the same thing about any form of entertainment. I just chose football arbitrarily so do me a favor and don't go off on a rant about that shit.

Final night. Reserved adults $38, reserved 12 and under $14, adult general admission $34, general 12 & under free and a pit pass $39.
By way of comparison my local track Cedar Lake was charging I believe around $35 general admission for their second night and $45 at the pit gate. That was I believe something like a 27 car show so the Kings Royal barring travel comes with a more reasonable price tag than many of their other stops on the tour.
