Was talking with a few people a couple weeks ago and heard that perhaps the 360's may be dropped next year at Knoxville in favor of the 305's. It was also discussed that they may alternate the two with the 410's every week. Does anyone know if this is true or not? It would make sense as to why Knoxville brought in the 305's 3 or 4 times last year. Are the 360's safe at Knox next year?

yes, as far as i know the 360's are safe, the schedule is already up. the 360's put on the best racing at knoxville...as far as 410's they are also on the weekly schedule so they are safe. i have heard rumors about the future saying that it may be 410 and 305 every week..the 410 feature will pay 1000 just to start causing some of the higher level of 360's to move up to 410 and the lower level of 360's to transfer to a 305

Replace 360's with 305's????
But then you'll have the same guys spending the same 360 money on 305 cars. Then they will lobby for drysump, crank drive water pump, then they will mandate the knoxville tire, knoxville wing, allow MSD mags, and now your entry level class will be a decubed 360 motor with steel heads.
I just dont know, some of the 305's are on the verge of getting out of hand. I guess I'll just run till I go broke and sell out whatever is left just like everyone else!

The guys with money will spend it regardless of the class they run or the rules. Don't know how you could write a rule limiting how much a team can spend much less enforce it. We ran a street stock class with a $300 motor claim. The track champ had around $1200 in his motor and sold 6 that year. But he won the track championship!

The best thing they could do is put a drysump on them. Then you might not see a third of the field every night in the pits with their motor in a basket. The cost of going to a 3 stage drysump and KSE water pump is around $1000 to $1300. Thats a whole lot cheaper than most of the 305 bills I've seen when they were sawed in half due to running out of oil with the current rules. If they left the current rules in place with the flat top piston and compression rule it would save guys money to have a drysump. Just in the fact their not going through 2 and 3 motors per year.
As far as the original post at the last drivers meeting of the year at Knoxville Cappy made the statement that the 360's and 410's are Knoxville classes. Will see what the future holds.

man that would be a huge mistake on Knoxville's part. If anything make a couple of rule changes that could maybe help.........don't know what those are exactly though. But if they do that to the 360's it will affect the 360 nationals - which has delivered just as good racing as the 410 nationals for the last 2 years. The 305's are a good idea - but not at the expense of the 360's or 410's.
How much would could a wouldchuck chuck if a
wouldchuck could chuck would

that is true, the 360's have gotten so popular int he last few years with the ASCS, people say they are the future of sprint car racing so i believe what cappy said that Knoxville would stick with them. I think knoxville should have the ASCS Midwest and National tours visit like the outlaws for the 410's. I would love if they had 305, 360 and 410 every night but we all know that wont happen.

Hootus, we ran into the same problem here in Tulsa about 15 years ago. We built a 2 bbl engine for a guy that was about $12,000 at the time. We heard guys screaming and throwing a fit because they thought the price was outrageous! Most of the other guys said "I can build 3-4 engines a year for about $4,000 each." Ok, so you build 3 engines a year at $4,000 each X 3 = $12,000 right? So while your fixing your blown up stuff all the time and missing a race or two here the guy that did it right the first time is still racing not missing anything!
My point is in the last line, if you spend money on good quality parts and have a good machine shop do the machine work and a reputable person assemble the engine chances are your less likely to have any problems.
