The aero is so bad on a sprint car that it would stall out at a certain speed. I do not know what that speed would be but maybe 165mph. I assume you are talking about a sprint car just like is run every week , and not one built for top speed like the one at Bonneville. My guess is the car would get very unstable and the fiberglass body would rip off. I would not want to drive it at all.

I'd say about 170 right before it blows going into turn 1.

I think the highest clicked speed at Syracuse was 156 if memory serves me correctly. I'm sure somebody knows.

I remember a video of Sammys front wing mounts giving away on the front stretch at Syracuse and that Sprint car lifted off the ground like an Airplane taking off.

They had a couple of winged 410 races in Sacramento at the Cal Expo in the late 90's I heard that Peter Murphy was clocked at 175 ??

Built and modded. That was not a common sprint car.

Check out the speeds at Belleville Highbanks with a 410, I witnessed a race there I believe was 2005 and first time they went by I couldnt believe the speeds. I think McMahan has the record their at 174mph. Ive been to Eldora and I think Belleview is much faster, track is huge and round and banked. Big league speeds!

What is a typical top speed at knoxville or eldora? And is that a calculated average speed for a lap or top speed entering a corner?
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

About as fast as it could go anywhere other than where it belongs which is a half mile or smaller track made of dirt.
I tell it like I see it.

Sammy Swindell did a lap of 24.719 seconds (145.637 mph avg) at Springfield IL mile in 1998. He had to have been close to or beyond 160 on the straights to have that kind of average speed. I was there that day. It was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen when he went into turn 1 & did not appear to lift at all.

Not sure about mile track top speeds, gotta be 160+ with a winged car. Talladega is kinda ridiculous to even think about. I was down at Bristol the first year they put dirt on it and it was damn fast but don't remember hearing any top speeds but I imagine it might have been close to 140 or so on the straights. Sammy was bad fast there also but he did cause a scene on the front stretch with his pissy attitude, he did dominate the race though. Not a big fan of the slammer but he always seemed to run up front on the fastest tracks.
Hey Chathamracefan, you going to go to the Fairbury sprint races in Oct. One of your posts on another site made me check that place out this year, thanks for the tip. Wish I could be there in Oct., That little place is just super!
