I've always been amazed at how close turns 1 and 2 are to Hwy 14. I read on Knoxville's site that they had a 360 driver fly over the wall in turn 1 and go through the billboards. They say the car came close to winding up on Hwy 14. I was just curious if any of the Knoxville regulars could tell me where he came to rest. I believe I heard the driver was transported but didn't suffer serious injury? Hopefully he's OK.
Also, seems like I've read about parts from cars winding up on Hwy 14 or even making the HyVee parking lot too. Just curious how many times this has happened and what parts?

Wow! Sure hope he wasn't hurt badly. I know they transported him though.

The driver that went out of the raceway was not hurt. Hoped a ride on a 4 wheeler inside and was talking to his crew after he got back, the other driver walked into the ambulance and was taken to her pit with a bruised foot. Neither driver was transported to the hospital.

This facebook post from a local media outlet has the accident and resulting video. Scary stuff. Glad everyone was okay.

Looks like Knoxville might need to add another 1 or 2 rows of guard rail around the corners to keep the cars from going out.
At the Nationals last August, another car went over the turn 3 wall and landed out in the parking area.

I was there when Andy Hillenbergs front wing went across the Hwy in hot laps or time trials, he was uninjured. I was also there the night either the front clip of a chassis or an axle landed on a car over on the north side of the Dingus Bar parking lot. Cant remember that drivers name off hand, I believe he runs ASCS now. He was shook up pretty good though.

I want to say it was "Pete Crall" but I'm probably mistaken.

On the local news lastnight they said that the Knoxville wall is currently 13 feet high and that they are planning on constructing a 22 foot catch fence.
And correct the front end that ended up in the Dingus lot was from Nate Moser, him an the rest of the car remained inside the track.

Didn't someone's fuel tank end up in the parking lot across the street in the last couple of years? #71?

Not sure of the year (2009-2010 is in the ballpark), but yes, it was Nate Mosher's (22n) front axel that launched into the Dingus parking lot and lodged into a car's sunroof. If not for the tethers, there probably would've been others... ie, Sheldon Haud in the 1B/410 Nationals B-Main a few years back... and Sawyer Phillips/360 Nationals prelim night two years ago.

Jon Corbin had a big crash in turns 1&2 a few years ago with Tasker Phillips (360 class) ... launched his tail tank over the fence/billboards... tail tank landed on the east side of Highway 14 by the Casey's sign. Another one that comes to mind is Chad McDaniel in a midget. He biked in turn 1, started flipping, and launched his tail tank over the fence/billboards. I believe his tail tank landed on the sidewalk on the east side of Highway 14... by Hy-Vee entrance.

My mid 80's memories are fuzzy, but I have half a rmemory of a wheel coming off on the front stretch and bouncing all the way to the front door of the Hy-Vee. (I believe that Highway 14 was still a 2 lane road as well) It was before construcion was completed so the parking lot was either dirt or very fresh asphalt and the Hy-Vee building had walls up but was a long way from being able to open. I am thinking it was a day show during the National's but like I said, my recollections of events in the mid to late 80s isn't exactly reliable.
Anyone else remember something like that?

That was before my time but I remember Doran Doty getting into the front stretch fence hard and his rear tire hit about row 28 down in like section H or I. Pretty sure it was just the tire (without the wheel).
