That looks like Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore Tx.. It was a seriously fast full half mile. The Gumout series had a race there a few years back..before it closed down. If that is the place fix the parking lot and dont change the track.

The WoO ran at Kilgore in 2003 and 04.

You might want to check with some of the guys in the All Stars who ran Rome, Georgia several years ago. The place supposedly had alot of banking and was wicked fast.

Thanks for all the input guys and gals, it's greatly appreciated!
Our goal is to have the best weekly show in the nation and we feel that getting feedback from the fans and participants is the only way to make this goal a reality.
Keep the suggestions coming please!

Just treat the fans and racers right and stick by what ever rules you decide on and you will have a fantastic operation. When is comes to rules treat all the same no favorites. Provide a safe enviroment for the fans with clean restroom's and fair prices for concessions. If you provide all this it won't matter banked flat or even figure 8 they will come. GOOD LUCK, please post this new track location when you get it up and running.

Looks like too much sand now to me - add more clay and go with it.
The 1/4 mile high banked track at Clinton, Ok. is so high that sometimes if the car is just sitting there after it spins out it will roll... just standing still. Now that's high banked. This picture looks similar.
Kilgore needs more clay... but is a great facility.

If you want some advice on track prep, get a hold of Tom Helfrich who promotes Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind. He's the best in the business IMO.

Fred Brownfield once said as a promoter don't promise alot but always deliver more than you promise. I think that is a great motto for success as a promoter and best of luck to you.

As mentioned above - provide a safe atmosphere for the fans - well lit parking with security patrol would be nice.
CLEAN and adequate rest rooms for the ladies is an absolute must have.
A family area with no drinking (and possibly no smoking) to keep the rowdies away from the kids and their ears.
By all means don't forget the kids - let them in free - they are your future paying fans. Give them a little playground area - the younger ones sometimes get bored with the races and pay a HS girl $25/nite to watch over the playground so parents feel safe letting their kids go play for awhile. Goofy but loveable Speedway Man at Haubstadt, IN is a favorite with kids and fans alike.
A corporate suite or hospitality area for your sponsors would be helpful to attract and entertain sponsors. Keep them happy and it will help your bottom line.
Make sure the PA system is more than adequate - and get a great and knowledgeable announcer - he is the voice/personality of the track. If you have a wireless mic make sure the damn thing works from all areas of the track from where it may possibly be used. It's a poor reflection on the track operation when the wireless mic cuts out during the Anthem or a winner's interview.
Just a few thoughts for now.... more later

do a progressive banking deal on it, if you keep the same degree banking to the very bottom, thats where every car will be running. looks like a good fast place thats for sure.good luck if you take the chance.

That looks great, we have lost many of our big half miles, a new one would generate a lot of interest.
You should post that picture and question over on the SCRA forum and see what the non wing boy's think. Click home and scroll down.

Good ideas.
Bathrooms should be maintained to a standard that your mother would approve. And have someone checking them periodically during the event.
Buy a GOOD recording of our NATIONAL ANTHEM, performed the way it was written. God knows we've all suffered through way too many vocal stylisations by no talent hacks.
Attend the RPM promoters workshops. They are a great source of ideas & an excellent chance to connect with other promoters. Maybe you can find a mentor!
