For those who knew him - Benito was one of a kind.
Benny Greenlee died Sat., Jan. 14th - I guess a heart attack. Benny raced the "little green car" #74 and ran with the sprints. Later he drove a conventional upright sprint #11. His home track was the Devil's Bowl in Dallas & Mesquite, but he loved Knoxville, Ia. I believe his #74 was the last modified looking car to race at the Knoxville Nationals. He raced from Pensacola, Fla. to Minnesota. He had many other interests but most of us will remember him for his racing.
Memorial for Benny will be held Saturday, January 28
4 to 6 o'clock.

Sorry for your loss Carol! Did you go to the Chili Bowl this year? Won't ever forget meeting you there for the first time wearing your JOHN BANKSTON Shirt, I'm sure you miss him as much as I do....

Yes Mike - I'm still making it to the Chili Bowl. The new stands help. I miss the good ole days with you there - and Mike Sweeton being there - and the bean bag tournaments. I miss visiting with you - and yes - I still think of John Bankston often. We've lost way too many good men/racers - and there are more to come.
I'm sorry if you never got to know Benito. He was quite a character. He was the first to have a sprint car fan club with "a car on a stick" at the Devil's Bowl in Mesquite, Texas. I have known him since 1963 - he is more family than some of my family. Thanks for your reply. I thought he had a lot of fans in the upper mid-west - but then, maybe some of them have passed on, too.

Great to hear back from you Carol. There aren't many of us left from the 'good ol' days' around these here parts. Personally I loved the interaction travelling around the country meeting special people like you from my postings in this forum. It's coming up to the part of the year I would be heading down to FL and seeing, hanging around some with our old buddy John B. I miss those fun days from East Bay as well as missing the leading lady in the sport Jean Lynch, there sure were some wonderful people involved back in the day. Having said that I am sure there still are, it's somebody else's turn to enjoy and live the dream, I certainly had a blast....
