WILLIAMS WIRE-TO-WIRE AT PERRIS

Sunday, 30 September 2007

By Robert Mayson

Perris, Calif.....Rip Williams, Yorba Linda, Calif., started on the outside of the front row in his Sharon Jory / AMA Plastics No. 3 Stinger and went on to led all 30-laps of Saturday night's Lucas Oil USAC/CRA sprint car main event at the Perris Auto Speedway.

Continuing to close-in on Dean Thompson's record mark of 103 sanctioned wins, Williams' first triumph of the season counted as the 101ST sanctioned 410-sprint car victory of his extraordinary career.

R.J. Johnson, Phoenix, Ariz., took advantage of heavy lapped traffic in the last ten laps of the race and gave "The Ripper" a scare in the final laps in the race. Ultimately having to settling for a second-place finish in Bobby Martin's Arizona Race Mart No. 15 Maxim, Johnson crossed the finish-line only .174 seconds behind Williams.

Josh Ford, Camarillo, Calif., started on the pole before driving his Keith Ford / Agromin Soil No. 73 TCR to a third-place finish ahead of Garrett Hansen (Manhatten Beach, Calif.) and defending series champion Cory Kruseman (Ventura, Calif.).
