Any recommendations/information greatly appreciated.  I am thinking of making the trip to the King's Royal in 2017.  I have never been before.  Can I get camping (36 ft. travel trailer) at any time within walking distance of the track?  (If so, does anyone have any contacts?)  Also, how hard is it to get tickets?  Seats?  Grass?

While on the subject, any "can't miss" racing in the immediate area within 2 days before or after the Royal?

Thanks,

Sarge

Come in town early and go to the Doty on Tuesday. Camping can be ordered online and same with tickets.

I've always wanted to do King's Royal weekend, then go to Lernerville for Silver Cup the Tuesday after, then go to Williams Grove from Lernerville for Summers Nats. Would be a pretty sweet week long trip to see 5 races with enough time to travel easy and see some sights.

you will not be disappointed by any means.  more camping than you could imagine.  showers, eats, drinks, soda or hard liquor.  buy general admission and sit on the grass, the best by far.  we sat on the grass going into three and the view of the backstretch is superior...

sydney ohio is a fifteen minute drive from the track, lot's of old communities to be like a tourist and he like.  we stayed for the truck race and won't forget watching Larson win it from the back of the of the field with abreau finishing third out of the "b"

anyway, plenty of things to do and see and that part of ohio is pristine imo...enjoy

Ascot was the greatest of all time..

West Capital wasn't half bad either..

Tickets are never hard to get. My wife and I have gone the last 5 years and buy them the day we go and never had a problem getting them.

5 or so minutes from your camper to the track.... there is camping all around it. For what I hear from others, camping is a good deal and they offer alot of services: pumping, fresh water, garbage pickup, etc.

Thanks for all of the info everyone.  I ask because it may be something I don't decide on until right before that point.  I want to know that I still have options if I decided to go at the drop of a hat!!

I know the Knoxville Nationals like the back of my hand so I know at that event I can get tickets and camping right up until the last minute without much effort.  Just wanted to know if the Royal was the same way.

Thanks for the help!

It's cool for 10 minutes.   Gets boring quick. Only good thing is that the beer is $2 and they run 6 ten lap heats in 15 minutes

Come to The Royal for a social event & take in a race too boot!  We've been going to that place for about 40 yrs now & we've met people from all over the world there.  Hell, yrs. ago we had a nice HoseHead's meeting where we all got out from behind this screen & actually met each other!  This year Gail had a nice display of photos covering 30 yrs of camps at race tracks we've been to around the country, but most of 'em were at Eldora.  Every year now we have the annual "Petey" bb tourney at the "New Palace" and have a lot of fun.  People on here will tell ya about Petey.  As for the races.........went to the 4crown last week & it was the same for the nonwingers as the wings.  Ya don't see that very often, but not all tracks are great all of the time.    Usually the heats suck at Eldora, but for the mains, the racing gets better.  The main thing you have to understand at Eldora is to use all of your senses.............Feel the vibration in your seat............Smell the air when they go by you taking the green flag...........Listen to the roar of the motors(unless you're in the pits, you're well above the track..it's in a bowl)..........Watch (and try to comprehend) the sheer speed that you'll see nowhere else!   Now, am I an Eldora superfan?   No way, just telling you what to experience there that you won't most other places.  We've got a lot of other tracks to see yet, but that's basically home to us.   Have fun & look us up when ya get there!

Depending on if you have the time for work you can do what my buddy did this past year if you dont mind drving a lot. He actually starting in Indiana for their speedweek at Gas City, Went to Kokomo then Lawrenceburg for the USAC races. Drove to Attica for the Doty Classic where I met him and was considering making the trip to Terre Haute but didnt think the weather would let it happen so we stayed in Ohio. Then did the 3days at Eldora and then made the trick to Lernerville for the Silver Cup. Then he went to the Summer Nationals at the Grove. I might be able to do it with him next year since I have vacation saved up but debating on going to the Nationals as well. Might do the 2 wk trip next year and the Nationals the year after

Will keep in mind.  Work is not an issue for me in the summer.  I work most of my hours in fall, winter and spring.  My issue is getting around the kid's sports schedules, and our family vacations!

Thanks for the plan though.  If all works out, it is possible for me to pull this off.  Maddog has been chirping at me to get to Indiana speedweeks anyways--may have to do that!  (PS Maddog--planted the seed in mama's ear this weekend that next year is going to involve a lot more sprint car races--and yes it will involve the new RV!  I didn't hear a yes but I didn't hear a noSmile)

No Problem. He said he had a blast and did not see a bad race the whole week. I have been wanting to go to some of the speedweek shows myself but was not able to get the time off. All of the tracks have camping from what he told me. I have been to Lawrenceburg a couple of times and the place is wicked fast. He said the only hard part of the week was deciding between the Lou Blaney Memorial at Sharon Speedway on Saturday and the race at Kokomo. The only reason he went to Kokomo was because he had never been there before. He did not mind driving clear across the state of Ohio then back to Indiana. It was more or less the Bucket List. Lou Blaney Memorial usually takes place the Saturday before the Kings Royal and it has the big block modifieds and All Star sprints. Went last year and the facility is top notch. If you end up doing it let us know and maybe all of us can meet up at a couple of the events. It is probably one of the best week's of the year for me in Ohio. We get All Star speedweek which is great but then we get all of those special big shows within a 2-3.5hr radius. Living in Columbus makes it easy to hit a lot of them.

Sounds good.  Plenty of time to figure things out.  I wouldn't mind expanding on what I did this year.  Have to start putting money away now.....
