Was visiting with a friend of mine yesterday and he was asking me if I was familiar with 2 tracks in Minnesota that used to race. Canby Speedway and Winona Speedway. Can anyone give me any assistance to the backround of these tracks, where they are and when they raced and if they still do?
Thanks.

Canby is in Canby, Mn. 1/2 mile. It was once called Yellow Medicine County Fairgrounds. It was built in 1948 and was raced on thur 1966, shut down-opened again in 1974, 1979 shut down, opened in 1982, closed 1986, opened 1988.
Winona County Speedway was in St Charles. It was at the fairgrounds. 1/4 mile. Opened in the 50's, raced 82 to 87, opened again in 90. Was called Whitewater Raceway at some point.

That sure is a funny looking 1/2 mile in Canby.
The track there is actually a 1/4 mile with decent banking. The track was reopened in 98 and stretched out from it's small 1/4 to a true 1/4 mile. Racing took place with sanctioning provided by WISSOTA from 98 till the summer of 07 when conflicts between the two promoters (the third batch in 6 years) boiled over and the track was closed.
I don't see it opening anytime soon.
