Midgets racing to Chili Bowl
For Cruz Pedregon, Josh Wise and Sammy Swindell, Ventura Raceway will
be an important stop on the way to the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals.
The three drivers for Cruz Pedregon Racing will be at Ventura Raceway on Saturday night for the USAC Western Midgets race preparing for the Chili Bowl in Tulsa, Okla., in January.
Swindell, a four-time winner of the Chili Bowl, is the latest
addition to Pedregon's team. All threedrivers come from different
racing backgrounds. Wise is rising through the ranks of NASCAR.
Pedregon is a champion NHRA drag racer. Swindell has spent the majority
of his career in open-wheel Sprint and World of Outlaw cars.
"Ventura Raceway is a new venue for me," said Swindell. "Getting in
a different car that I don't normally run and being at a different
track with different drivers will definitely be a challenge. I hope I
can give the team some good feedback on the cars, set-up and the
motors. We'll use this race at Ventura to check things out and make
sure everyone is on the same page so when we get to the Chili Bowl in
Tulsa we'll be ready."
Pedregon will be making his fourth trip to the Chili Bowl. He was
also in the field for Tony Stewart's Prelude to a Dream race at Eldora
Speedway, a late model race that included some of the top drivers in
the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series.
"The Ventura Midget race will be a Chili Bowl tune-up for me," said
Pedregon. "Last year, I ran the Chili Bowl without any seat time in the
car so I really got a work out. Every year, I feel like I'm more
competitive and the USAC race at Ventura Raceway will help with my
conditioning program and get me some valuable seat time in the midget."
