Let me start by stating, I think what Todd is trying to do with the NSL is commendable. But......

The format they are using, a combination of points for qualifying and heat finish to decide the A-Main field is absolute crap. Take Saturday evening as an example - You had two guys qualify extremely well, but fail to finish a heat race, and they are rewarded with an A-main starting position? The two scratch for the night after the heat, and they take no alternates. So now they are starting an eighteen car field instead of twenty.

What ever happened to giving somebody an opportunity to transfer through the heat by passing cars, you know actual racing. If you have a bad qualifying lap, why even run the heat? Unless you run at the very front, you still have to run the B, why even beat the crap out of your equipment if the result will be the same?

How about the NSL just line it up like a Silver Crown show. Top 16 in qualifying make the show the rest run a last chance race (taking top 4) and then they can be done by 8:30.

And don’t forget that if they don’t have enough cars to run a B, the cars they add outside the top 20 in combined points, don’t get paid the same as the other 20 drivers, no matter where you run - Even if you win!

Remember the days when Knoxville started 24 cars each evening (if they had that many), well those days are over with their relationship they have with the NSL. This is a key point for the purse structure everyone is talking about. Yes the purse has increased (for the top 20 cars), but it has decreased for the next 10 cars. Want car counts, quit adding money to the front only.

I thought I read on their website that top 5 finishers in heat race qualify for the A-main, so I would also ask the same question you are asking about how a driver makes the AMain without finishing his heat.  be careful though. A certain someone on here won't like you questioning anything Tod or NSL related.

Why is it you have to always throw in a snide remark? Grow up! You can only hide behind sarcasm as an excuse just so long.
