I may have asked this before but not sure I ever really got an answer.  Can someone explain to me how the Brad Doty classic is considered a part of the "month of money" deal?  I have looked up the past 5 years results and see that it only pays a normal Worl of Outlaw purse.  After looking at races such as the Williams grove summer classic, Kings royal, Lernerville's race, the Iron man and of course the Knoxville Nationals, all races that have a signifigantly higher purse, how does the Doty race figure in?  Using the same ol' normal purse logic, shouldn't the races in Oshweken, Hartford and Wilmot also be included?  I just fail to see how this is a race considered as a "month of money" race.  Any explanations?

I was not aware there was an official event list for the Month of Money.

Generally speaking, the month of money has always started with the Kings Royal. Now that the Doty has been a part of that same week as the Royal, I guess some people just lump them together. Some people dont.

Money or not, the Doty is a big event, and that is why many people lump it in with the rest.

But again, some people dont. Who cares though. Great racing will take place that night.

For the PennLive Month of Money contest, I lump it in there, not because of money paid out, but because of the prestige associated with this event.

Brad works real hard to get drivers to attend this race.  It very much has a special show feel to it.   Can you name another stand alond mid-week show that will have the driver roster of the BD Classic?

It actually is a bigger purse becasue a lot of mid week shows only pay $6,000 to win and $500 to start

I also was not aware, nor have I ever seen, an official "Month of Money" event list.  It's simply a moniker (maybe even a marketing moniker) given to the time frame from King's Royal to Nationals because of so many high paying events in a shorter window.  It doesn't mean every single race that month is high paying.  It simply means there are a number of high profile, high paying races within that given time frame.

Like a lot of other great things in the sport about 15 years ago.  When Paulie's bad luck is all thats new and different to talk about, its time for some big change.  Bigger wing, smaller wing, no wing, less tire, more engine, different asian country building the frames, turbos, lighter cars, more chrome, valve covers off a Y block .........................................ANYTHING PLEASE!

That is incorrect. The majority of the midweek shows pay the standard $10k to win purse. There was another thread in here about this and Johnny Gibson gave the actual numbers. Out of all of the midweek shows, only a few have the reduced purse. It has something to do with the number of miles traveled from the previous event.

It's out of respect to Brad Doty for his accomplishments and the like. It's also a race with a lot of history and it's 2 days before the start of the King's Royal.

Not being sarcastic but if you are that disillusioned with the sport maybe take a break.  Walk away for a bit and then when and if you're ready return.  Perhaps you'll have a new perspective and can once again enjoy races.  All of the fodder you mention is great for before and after "talk" about the races, but by gawd just enjoy being able to see men in literal rocket ships slide job each other on a dirt track.  Once you seperate all the issues and leave your obsession with foreign built chassis and "Ford power" at home, mayeb you'll have a fresh mind and can just enjoy the races in front of you.

Not knocking your discussion points or your XXX or Ford obsessions.  You're entitled to those.  Just sayin when at the track enjoy the races, the smells, the comraderie.  If you've lost that enjoyment, maybe walk away for a bit.  Distance makes the heart grow fonder.

Very well said, and much more congenial than I would have been. I've grown quite annoyed with his shtick.

The Doty actually paid more the last stint at Attica when it was All Star sanctioned and the track was promoted by Janet Holbrook. I believe it had been as high as 14,000 to win. That may have been why it was lumped in with the "month of money."
