Yes, our Travel Assistance Program pays $1.50 per mile with a cap at $400 for the 410 sprint cars.

So say the race had already been run and the winning driver wanted to cash in his silver, would he get $17.87/ounce or do you take "basis" off of that and pay them less on the spot market ???
Couple $'s taken off for basis would make a big difference in the payout.

I've read somewhere that it's your choice what to do with the silver. You can redeem for the current value or hold onto it and play it to go up or down in value.

I don't think you are understanding his question. What he's saying is that to sell the silver, that most of the time, you aren't going to get paid the spot price that silver is going for on the commodities market. Pawn Shops and Jewelry Stores give you less than market value so they can sell it and make $$. Depending on the local market, that can vary anywhere from 40% to 95% from what I have seen and read.
Personally, I could care less. I'm not a racer, so how they get paid has zero effect on me personally. If I were a racer or team owner, maybe I'd be more interested...

Bingo!
I'm wondering if the Pawn shop is going to screw them on the Silver price or not.
If you walked into Badlands Pawn today, what will they give you for an ounce of physical silver in Sioux Falls?

would it offend any of you to wake up to the wisdom that silver investments are more valuable than investing in racing?

Hopefully there is a mechanism put in place so the silver can be easily sold for market value minus transaction cost. Regardless, it's kind of a fun way to do the purse.
To put it in persepctive, the National Open purse is $105k for the A main

I would think that most racing teams that are low budget or "Workin' folks" understand the importance silver and would probably be keeping the silver rather than cashing it in. Everyone else will come to Hoseheads and find a way to twist this to make it look like some sort of evil is taking place. Hell I bet a lot of these bitchers would love to race for 100,000 obama zero dollar bills!

I hope you never purchase any of these items from these "Predators" as well....
Movie theater popcorn has an average markup of 1,275 percent.
Prescription drugs – with markups ranging from 200 to 3,000 percent.
Bottled water’s markup reaches 4,000 percent.
Salad bar items are marked up more than 350 percent.
Markups for eyeglass frames can reach 1,000 percent.
Hotel minibar markups can hit 400 percent.
Fast food soda (18 oz) a markup of more than 1,250 percent.
Cup of Coffee from a Coffee shop 2,900 percent.
So..... Is the margin in payday lending high as well... yes. Here in SD Dollar Loan Center's APY is 363 percent. But to call him a "predator" is kinda crazy.
Also note that the Owners of BMS donate a shit ton of time and money to the Brennen Rock and Roll Academy. He also donated 30k to a Little league in Vegas. 20k to St. Jude's in 2012.
And now he wants to dish out money to the drivers of a sport that we both love.... and he is called a predator. Plain and simple he has upped the ante for sprint car racing in the Midwest (which was very much so on the decline) and is now the prick..... and yes you do make note of being thankful for this.

I believe the dig on PayDay loans is that the people getting hit with a 363% markup (if that's correct - will assume you've done your homework and it is) are those that can least afford it. All the other things you listed are discretionary items... with the exception of prescription drugs... maybe... and that's probably another story in itself!
As far as Chuck being a philanthropist... I think that would go a lot further in the minds of many if the means by which he created his wealth didn't have an asterisk by it.
I was glad that Danny Peace forked over the cash for the 8D in '89... and am glad now that Chuck is spreading cash around to the drivers in the upper Midwest. I'm just disappointed that he's blatantly doing it on a Saturday night, and poking at the history that Knoxville has worked hard to create. It's a free country... it's his business... it's his track... and he can do whatever he wants... I just don't have to be happy about it!

The only thing on your list people NEED to buy is the prescription drugs. All the rest are voluntary purchases. And most have insurance or Obama care to help pay for the drugs.
Payday loans take advantage of people in a desperate financial situation. Once in debt to one of those places it can be very hard to get out. I work with a guy who went to a pay day loan. Just a loophole for loan sharking!

Looks like the FORD once again has a flat tire! Hmm
Everyone is tired of listening to the compaining! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!
As far as Knoxville goes.... Hes just creating his own business the way he wants to. If Knoxville wants to attract the drivers then they will need to up the ante. Sorry but the sport at the end of the day is a business.

If he had said something like 'With all due respect to Knoxville, I'm racing on Saturday nights because I'm trying to make money at this... and think that racing 410s on Saturday nights is going to give me the best opportunity to do that' ... or he could've simply said 'it's a business decision' when asked, and left it at that. That's not exactly what he did though. Am I missing something?
