Starting Friday the World of Outlaws will use new dash forma- 6 cars- heat winners qualify and next fastest qualifiers who transfer will join them.

Is there another professional organization in sports entertainment that makes changes on the fly like this? Could they not discuss and make changes like this before the season starts? What do the drivers think of this?

uhhhh yes there is another. Remember nascars sudden change in # of qualifiers for the chase last year ?

Has the inversion format changed or is it still top 4?

I'd like to see them stop going back on times for lineups after the heats.  Use the heat race finish instead.  If you charge from the tail of a heat and miss the transfer by a spot, you start up front in the B.  If you start in the front of a heat and break or miss the setup and fall to the back, you start at the tail of the B.  Give teams a legit shot at rebounding from a bad time trial lap.  

I agree with the above comments.  Start the A main by the heat finish.  Start the B main finishers at the tail of the field.

I like the new dash fomat but at most races the track is not ready by heat time and we will still see qualifers 9 thru 16 in the dash.  The trick is trying to figure out how to qualify 9 thru 16.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.  I do believe if you ask mr schatz about how to finish in that area, he could tell you.

I must say...I like seeing all the Heat Winners Get in. I always wondered why they did things the way they did. A lot of times you'll see guys who usually wouldnt win races win their heat and then start mid pack because of the way things were set up. I like seeing these guys get rewarded with a better starting spot and a chance at sitting on the pole. I think it should also make for better racing having some of the guys who would usually get in the dash based off speed having to start a little farther back and race their way forward

heat winners were in the dash in the prior format as well.

they are now dropping the second place heat finishers out of the dash.

looks like they are only taking heat winners and the next two fastest qualifiers that transfer out of the heats.

Bmd5229 I have said for years that Schatz is a master at timming 10-16.  And then at the big money shows he has quicker times.   

I like it Buzz, why qualify if your going to penalize the guys who do well at it...

With that said, I'd like to see some sort of group qualifying due to the qualifying pill having an impact on times...

so - 8 cars to the dash (4 heat winners + 4 fast qualifiers) and not 10 (two fastest guys locked in if they qualify) ?

I have seen far more good races with good drivers starting up front then I have when they are forced to start 10-12th and being in PA, I have quite a bit of experience watching handicap shows vs. TT shows.  Pretty soon I'll have the option of seeing at least one a week.  A faster car with a better driver passing the slower cars up front doesn't impress me much, sorry.  If anything it spreads the field out after about 10 laps when the first fast guy gets to the lead and checks out, or causes an accident when people who don't really belong up front our getting runover by the people that do.  See those scenarios all the time with handicap racing.  Seeing 3-5 FAST cars in a tight pack go after each other for 25-30 straight laps is far more entertaining to me.  Anyone who was at Lincoln last week saw a good example of this with Marks, Dietrich, Hodnett, Dewease, and Wilt in a constant battle for the entire race.  Far more exciting than if one of those drivers would have started a couple spots ahead of the rest, passed slow traffic by lap 5, and literally put half a track between the other drivers in the 3-4 extra laps those drivers would need to make up the extra positions from Handicapping.  $.02

so why do most people start getting excited when the lead cars get to traffic and have to start racing their way through it?

how many times does a yellow come out just when the lead cars get to traffic and people say , "darn they were just getting to traffic. it was about to get good."

i grew up watching the fast cars start in the back. heck most sprint car races were that way until the woo began starting their guys up front.

as much as you PA guys complain about the woo i am shocked you defend their idea of putting the fast cars in front.

if after 10 laps the fast guys get past everyone and start checking out....it just means you didn't start them back far enough! ;)
