There is also a BIG difference in winning a weekly show in California compared to an international grand prix.
Sorry, but I disagree.
A race is a race...cars, drivers and length of race. All the same.
I think what some are getting at, and I certainly agree, is that young Larson won his races in a number of different "types" of cars and tracks. By far, he outshined all the other competitors in that category.
I don't think his failure to capture this "coveted prize" will in any manner deter him from his goal of getting to the big time! (but it sure provides some interesting discussion on this forum!)

YOU'RE COLD?"

Bottom line is this. Who gives a rat's ass? If you like Kyle Larson, that is all that should matter. Will it make a difference to him? I think not..... If you like F1, good for you. It is an award, it is not God's word. Take from it what you will. Let's go RACING.............

When someones in the top 3 for something that normally means they have a shot at winning, whether its based off something and people vote or its a drawing, thats kind of the way stuff like that works.
Isn't it time for you to go back to your Big J or Big D or whatever douche report that was you were writing and then just randomly stopped writing around the end of April. Why was that again you quit doing that and decided to open a new account on here?

I think that when an engineer tells you what your lap times should be before you even get to the track....you are a robot and NOT a wheelman.
Wheelmen are able to give feedback to the guys wrenching on the car in order to improve the car....F1 drivers are expected to hit their braking and turn points down to a millimeter. (kinda like a robot....just repeat with precision what you are told to do)

I'm no engineer, but I bet I can tell you within a .10 what fast time will be at Knoxville for a WoO race. F1 drivers give 10x the feedback that any dirt track driver does. When was the last time a Sprint Car driver had to develop a new car? F1 drivers do it every year. Sprint Car drivers use off the shelf cars and parts, the development was done decades ago by two guys named Kinser and Swindell.

Um Hawker, I think they have different drivers do the testing of the F1 cars. Oh yeah, I'll also agree that, in F1, it's more car than driver. Technology rules in F1 more than anything else and it always has been that way. Look at Ayrton Senna's last few races. He was supposed to be the greatest F1 driver but, when his team had a hard time getting the new car to work, he had a hard time finishing and driving it. When he was killed, it seemed to me that he was maybe overdriving his car to compensate for the ill-handling characteristics he was dealing with. I'll watch it once in a while if it happens to be on the TV but it don't get my rocks hard like it does for Red and Yellow. Red, if you think Larson has no talent and it takes no talent to race dirt, you are a fool's fool.

Do you THINK that they have different drivers for testing in F1, or do you KNOW? Also, based on your post, it appears that you have you finger on the pulse of F1. So I have a question for you. How many testing days do they have this season? Of course, these are rhetorical questions.......With Senna, do you know what the deal was with his "new car"? Because I do. And how many times have you seen a sprint car driver drive over their head over an ill handling car? Also, may I suggest that you go back and read ALL of my posts on this thread before you post again, because it is you who looks like the fool.

Hawker, perhaps you need to read a little closer as I was not referring to you as a fool but, rather, to Red and Yellow. Also, I do KNOW that all F1 teams have testing drivers, developmental drivers and all that crap. With Senna's "new" car, wasn't that the time they took away the traction control devices and they actually had to try some seat of the pants driving?
Now, anyone who reads your posts knows that you know everything about everything and they can ask you to make sure. If you want to be the board asshole, I guess that's up to you. A little humility once in a while would go a long ways.
Now, back to the original theme of this thread......................................

Here's how much I know about modern pavement racing: 2 years ago I hung around after Knoxville Nationals to see Speedy Bill's Museum in Lincoln, Neb. On my way back to Denver, followed Dario Franchetti's hauler halfway thru Nebraska. I had to google him to learn he was an Indy car champ.

And you are an insufferable snob. Just because you guzzle champagne and may be well eduacated does not automatically mean you have class. And you, sir, have zero class.

Racing is racing. I cannot afford to travel to watch most types, so when they are on TV, I will and do, watch them. Pretty much all types, lawn mower, swamp buggies. I am a 'race' fan, but I lean towards Sprint cars. I get to see some pretty good shows at Wilmot with the IRA. Maybe not what you WOO, or Posse followers see weekly, but good racing nonetheless. It is all I can do, and I enjoy it. Who really cares who's steering wheel is bigger, or who is 'banging' who, or how much more octane your car's burn, or who races in the rain. It is racing. Isn't that what it is all about?

But it's amazing how many well educated people have zero common sense. Look at the politicians and school leaders in this country................very little common sense. I'll take street smarts any day of the week.

Vettel is good, but I can only say he is better than his team mate Weber. Red Bull has been THE best car in F1 the last couple, no make that 3 years. How do you think Vettel would have done if he was driving for lets say Force India? The car itself plays a HUGE role in F1. That being said, during the off season the driver spends alot of time testing the new car with the engineers. How much input in engineering changes to the new car, "if any" the driver has during that time is anybody's guess.

Not all teams use testing drivers, and the the teams that do, still use the primary driver to develop the car (original topic). And no, it wasn't the elimination of TC, it was the elimination of the "active" suspension...Yeah, you're right, I'm not afraid to chime in on things I KNOW (not think)...I always know when someone on here realizes that they're wrong, because it is then that they resort to name calling. Mission accomplished...
