O My God! A bunch of infantile egomaniacs behind the keyboard...on both sides of this topic! I have never ever ever been within a hair of a chance of a snowballs chance in hades been ever anywhere close to even thinking of even raising my hands and giving a charity clap for Sammy Swindell. Not a chance. (though I do respect the hell outta the guys determination, driving ability and technical skills...in alol 3'categories he's one of the best...I just don't like him). That being said...if he wants to "un-retire" and get behind the wheel again...WHO THE FRICK CARES AND WHO THE FRICK ARE WE TO JUDGE! IITS FRIKKEN AMERICA AND SLAMMIN SAMMY CAN DO WHATEVER HE FRIKKEN WANTS! He doesn't hafta ask us for permission and he couldn't care what ours is anyhow. Personally I'm glad he's out there cause we all sit here and bitech that car counts are low but hey...he's one more out there for Shatz to dominate over. Heck, when I'm his age and if I could get out there and pound the dirt i sure as hell would...but I can't. Don't have the funds or Sammys ability. But I guess we all can be owners drivers and sponsors from behind a keyboard...some of us being infantile egomaniacs over 40 from our parents basement. You all crack me up. Used to post on here all the time when it was fun 10 or more years ago...now it's mostly a punchline. Sorry for the rant. ya all just cranked me up. And Sammy. I may not be a fan of yours but peace to u in yours in your time of need with the Bulldog.

No hatred for the legend here but I'm going to be 64 next month and can't figure out why these Sprint Car drivers have such a hard time hanging it up. Sammy (and I can say this from experience) is at an age where it sucks getting out of bed in the morning until after all the aches and pains are stretched out. I couldn't even imagine running up and down the highway in 95 degree heat and humidity at our age. If there's any stupidity in another senior citizen questiong why he'd still want to race full time then I'm guilty. No hating though, I've been watching Sammy since he started racing with the Outlaws and admire his accomplishments. Just saying that being in one's 60's changes everything. You'll get your turn and when you do you'll think back on this post when you can barely drag your ass out of bed in the morning and you too will wonder why Sammy is hanging in there doing a young man's sport at this age.

I think Sammy may be in better shape than you. Not everybody is washed up at 63 and I'm sorry you are. Sammy has medical bills coming in as well now so earning a buck at what he does best and loves makes sound economic sense to me.

Just got done upgrading my deck and I walk every day in the skyway during luch break so I'm still moving. Anyone who hasn't been in the skyway systems we have here in Minnesota is probably thinking that's a block or two walk. Trust me, you can walk over an hour without passing the same spot, these things are massive and span the whole downtown area. I move it but there's a difference between moving it to stay active and getting slapped around in a Sprint Car wreck.
More power to these older guys but it's going to catch up with them eventually.

Of course! I wouldn't have driven in a sprint car race at 27! Those guys are insane....but if they're willing to do it, I'm willing to watch...

Who cares what Sammy does. Why does it matter? He is one of the best of all time and he can do whatever he wants. Sammy, along with Steve and Doug, elevated this sport to where it is today....I like more cars and drivers on the track. Especially legends like Sammy.

I've got all my hair and teeth and everything still works.....yep, that's what I said, everything. LOL
Seriously, if I intended to drive a Sprint Car at my age and was motivated to do it I'm sure that I could. Nevertheless, the grind of the hot weather (I'm from Minnesota so I'm wired that way), getting banged around in flips and the grind of the road would suck more than it would have 40 years ago. Washed up is a pretty harsh term, it's more of a mental aversion to work and my close proximity to retirement after starting on the farm at 14. With most people it's more about an opportunity to enjoy doing things that aren't as intense as our working careers for a few years while we still can after having worked our whole adult life. Evidently that isn't one of Sam's priorities. ;)

Wow, such anger and infancy in some of these posts... We all know it's hard for racer's to quit racing, it's in their blood and much easier to say they're done then it is to really do it. I see this as a win for the fan's and for the tracks. The fans that love Sammy get to see some more trips around their speedway. The haters get to boo some more. And the tracks may get some more fans in the stands. Looks good to me...
