This isn't about the fans. This is about the drivers. And if you want to have success in racing - whether that be on the WoO tour or bigger things - and you're born and raised in California, ya gotta get the hell out. See Paul McMahan, Kyle Larson, Tim Kaeding, Brad Sweet and soon to be Rico Abreu (hell he's running more shows out of California than in this year).
The Central PA locals are graded on a scale of how well they do against the Outlaws at Williams Grove, Lincoln and this year Port Royal - no one can dispute that. So I graded the California locals the same way and these were the results which were skewed because a chunk of talent wasn't at the WoO. If the Central PA locals don't win AND take 5 or more of the top 10 every night there's a million threads on it. And because of those threads now when the locals in PA do perform well, the fans counteract the negativity with positive chest bumping threads, some intended just to get a rise out of people.
This is the first thread examining what many consider to be a 410 hotbed of sprint car racing under the microscope that Central PA has and last year during this exact same swing when the California locals represented well there about 15 threads about how great their locals are and how well they did.
|
The only race that seems to draw a really good local car count at a WoO show, comparable to that of what the Grove receives, would be the Gold Cup in Sept, which has also taken a huge local hit these past few yrs, due to financing. Teams in Ca. do not have the pressure to perform by its fans nor the egos, to feel like they have to take on the WoO and win. If they cant afford it, they dont show up. Some of the better financed teams will always take that challenge, but many do not. Even Brent Kaeding has stopped racing against them over the past few yrs. Chico is the only track that runs a weekly show, about a 15-20 car avg, so this would seem to be the only track that gives those regulars its "Porch" advantage, similiar to those that run the Grove weekly have. Every other track that WoO races does not have a weekly winged show on its schedule, and therefore, the advantages are about even, if not slanted to the WoO, since they are the best in the busines. And yes, Ca does product great drivers, but in fairness, those that are leaving are leaving for much bigger paychecks, even bigger than what Pa has to offer, either WoO or Nascar. Tough to compete against that, especially if you have the talent to make a living in those series. There are some promising up and comers who will also look for a brighter stage to shine on. Personally, i think that's the ultimate goal of local racing, getting to that top step in the ladder of ones racing career, whereever that may be.

Yeah. Good point. California makes a lot of the states in the Northeast look like city parks in comparison.

The county I live in here in AZ is bigger than some states.
Remember that the KWS series has had major changes since last year and this race with MAVTV on board was a big deal for 410 winged racing in Cali...

On the second night only, if I recall correctly? All I'm saying is there are people on this board that believe the 410s in California trump every other local scene.

who cares about the effin woo-zers anyway? BFDeal...that's what the teams are saying in Ca that don't want to play by their kindergarten rules. give me KWS any day of the week...

Get a life. You make a shit stirring post like this then you better damn well bet on getting people fired up. You're a disgrace of a fan if you really believe this drivel you posted. You're from California originally and yet you act like this? Pathetic.
You want to be proud of the racing you have in PA then go right ahead but to do it at the expense of another region is just plain stupid. Personally I love CA racing because you actually get to watch elbows up bullring action. The big frieght train snoozer tracks are not for me so you can have em. The facts are the best racers coming through the ranks are doing it by way of an education on bullring racetracks not the big half miles.

This is just too funny.
Irony at it's finest. Thank you NWFan for proving my point with your first post. In case you missed Henry's post, he stated if you want to be proud of your local racing so be it, but not at an expense of another region. And then you, so elegantly, said KWS all day and managed to bash both Williams Grove and Knoxville, two of the most famous dirt tracks in the world.

And to everyone wound up on the whole Perris thing - I have stated multiple times that ANY LOGICAL CAR OWNER would have ran that KWS show over Perris. You can criticize and yell at me for everything else but I agree with you on that point.

respectfully just do not see how THEY are the most famous tracks in the usa for any reason, if you like watching follow the leader all day long then Knoxville wins the prize. the show at eldora is ten times that of Knoxville. as far as williams grove i will find out for myself next year and get back to you.
the pissin' match between the left coast and the state next to New Jersey will continue for all time, it's all good racing.....some better than others!
been to tulare lately, hanford, placerville, ocean, stoga or??????????????
ocala, volusia, charlotte, hussetts, fargo (closed) and on and on and on. to say two tracks are the most famous because of their history and large payouts once a year are not the best IMO. but then again, who asked me right?
its just that peeps that never get out of their own backyard seem to be doing all the trash talking here so just adding my two cents worth. some of you just need to go racing in more states than you're own and see for yourself.

Ah this NWFan is a lot more pleasureable to talk to and have a good, racing conversation with. Thank you.
First of all, I must respectfully disagree with your opinion of Knoxville. When was the last time you were there (honest question) because the racing there has been second to none every time I've been there and I've been going to Nationals for the last 8 years. The atmosphere at the Nationals and in that small farmtown is unmatchable and is the best 4 days of the year, IMO.
The last sentence applies to a majority of Posse fans, but last year alone I attended races off the porch at Knoxville, Attica, Eldora, Fremont, Wayne County, Waynesfield, Placerville and Ocean. And this year I've already hit the WoO races at Tulare and Perris and then I'll be back on the porch for a while. So while I agree with your stereotype because it is generally true, it does not apply to myself.
In regards to the racing at Williams Grove, you'd have better luck on most nights down the road at Lincoln, but there is nothing like the atmosphere at a WoO-Posse showdown at Williams Grove. So even when the racing is sub-par, I feel satisfied when I leave the track. If you're coming into town for the first time, you gotta do the National Open. It's a party - no sleep, whole lot of beer, and a bunch of great racing folks. The experience is worth coming out just for that, but in addition you get 60+ cars and a true look at one of, if not the most, intense rivalries in our beloved sport.

Most Famous != Most Passing
Also, you're just flat out wrong on your follow the leader in regards to Knoxville. In 2013, one 410 race was won from the pole and the average starting position of feature winners was 4.94. Even if you exclude Schatz winning from 21st in the biggest sprint car race in the world (follow the leader, eh?) it's still at 4.06.
I'm not sure what the appropriate comparison out west would be for CA in terms of a weekly 410 track or if the KWS would be a better comparison. I can't find detailed KWS with starting results without poring through write-ups and I don't have time to do that. Would love to know what the average starting position of race winners was in 2013. Not saying Knoxville will be better but I'd bet its a hell of a lot closer than you make it sound.
