You are all right. Drivers definitely go to the public and beg for fan donations, especially ones who are supposed to be "full time". I don't know what I was thinking, obviously any professional driver would do this.

All of you are as clueless as usual. As clueless as you were about Kinser being "done", as clueless as you are about Swindell "not being a dirty driver" and on and on. There never was any use in sense with most here. You make up your own minds based on nothing good.

Go find me a couple more USAC drivers doing this and I will agree that it has a place in high level sprint car racing. If you want to be cheap and unprofessional, whatever, then go beg your fans for money. If you want to be a professional, get your ride and finances sorted before you hit the road. I bet Joey Saldana isn't going to cart a 410 around soliciting donations if he doesn't get a ride right away next year. But yes, this definitely has a good place in racing, begging fans for donations. Gives the individual driver and the sport as a whole a real nice image.

I guess you missed the part where it was stated that Robert wasnt asking fans for money, but businesses. You know like a driver looking for a sponsor? The idea for fans to help out was brought about by...wait for it...a fan.

I agree with mwilaski.

Why doesn't Ballou get a job during the week to help pay for his racing. Didn't he post pictures of his hunting vacation after last years racings was over? Why doesn't he sell one of his rifles? When he raced in Ca he made more enemies than any race ever by his disregard for other racers and their equipment. Now he needs $.

Ok, that's all well and good. In that case OP shouldn't make a thread asking fans to donate to him.

MandG, forget about this clown. It's like talking to a tree stump. If this asshat would actually go to races, it probably could learn something but since it doesn't hit any races it'll remain a stump.

And, by the way, Robert Ballou is one of those that is worth the price of admission all by himself (Daron Clayton is another). You know, when he's on the track, that you will see a show.

Once??? Oh please forgive my stupidity then. I only hit 44 nights of racing this past season alone and that was my lowest number of events in the last 15 years.

A few years ago at the Oval Nationals there was a young driver that had come to Perris for the first time, his car was owned by his family and was a low budget operation. As the event went along it was apparent this kid had talent. When the main event day came all the drivers and thier cars were out front to greet the fans, when I met this kid I thought he was only 13 or 14 years old and was one of the friendliest drivers out there, during one of the races it was anounced that he and his family needed money to try and go back to the midwest and race with USAC. I gave a small amount to try to help as did quite a few "fans" the kid went back and started running with USAC and now has made it up the ladder, his name is Brad Sweet the moral is if you are a fan of this sport you need to help if you can. These drivers risk more than any fan can ever know to provide us with the entertianment we love, if it bothers you to here someone ask for help, find another form of entertainment.

I have a question, and I have strayed from asking it because I really don't want to get into this pissing match, but I have to ask. Mwilaski, do you have any clue what it costs to run a competitive operation? This is a serious question and I am not bashing, but do you? To be frank, the high dollar teams in racing have made it impossible for anyone who is even close to being an average guy to fund his own operation. There is not a single driver or car owner who can compete at the level that Robert competes at without a MASSIVE sponsor, unless he is independently wealthy. If we cut out all of the sponsors, which this economy has almost completely done, and then remove the teams that are hard up for money because they can't afford it, you would be watching races with 6 cars. Like it was stated earlier, Robert did not ask for a dime from his fans. He is looking for sponsors. If a fellow who likes Robert jumps on here and asks for help on his behalf, that still is not Robert asking, it is his buddy. Why bash him on this thread and make him look bad for actions that he did not initiation? From a car owner who has been graced by fans coming out of the stands and offering to help my team let me tell you, it helps to make the sport one big happy family. Once you know that people appreciate your being out there it makes it worth your time to continue to do it. I have never asked anyone other than sponsors for money, but I have had it offered to me from fans who wanted to help my driver. If that is what someone wants to spend their money on and they want to help bring a car back next week, what is the big deal?

It's very plain to most of us that now that you've been smacked down for your misinformed and lame comments about Balou, that you're just playing the fool with your comments now. It may be hard to tell the difference though, because you've had so much practice being one.

This tool has been trolling here for a few weeks posting nothing but stupidity. He thinks he's playing a game, some people have bought in, most haven't. I just wish he could be exposed, someone posting a real name might end things, who knows? Lord knows he's a coward hiding behind an alias, typical keyboard tough guy crap, ;please ignore him, no more feeding the trolls.....

Hey 79, Destini. The color of your car reminded me of when I was at Spanaway speedway back in the early 80's. I was there with my kids, a boy and a girl. My son was in the third grade, and my daughter was in the 4th. Spanaway, a little paved track, but what the hay it was better than nothin. Anyway after the Sprinters took their hot lap sessions I asked my son what car he liked the best and he said "the red one!" I asked him why he like that particular car and he said "I like the way it looks" I asked my daughter the same question and she said "that black one dad." Again I asked the same question to her and she said "I like the way he gets into turn one!" The black car was Rebel Jackson Senior and he smoked em that night. I can't remember who was in the bright red one. Oh, and she could catch some BIGFISH too!

One my mother's grave, that's a true story.

That is a great story there Bigfish. This is Destini's dad, Destini tends to stay away from these boards. She does not have the patients for a lot of what goes on here. It is interesting that your daughter pinned the winner though. I think that there are a lot of girls that have a love of the sport and that could make it driving Sprinters, and wrenching on Sprinters, they just are not taken seriously very often. Unfortunately for me (and probably a better decision by her), she has opted to step out of the car and pursue college. Who knows what a couple of years might bring however. She may get back to it. In the mean time I am having a friend of mine drive the car. It is a funny thing, how men tend to shy away from driving a Pink car. ;) I guess we will be painting it before next season. I will share that story with Destini however, I am certain that she will enjoy it as well. Thanks again and have great off season.

judging by the donations and attention ballou has received, the FANS idea to help him out is working. and why is it ok in some eyes for a team to "ask" for business sponsorship but if the fans are asked, its "begging"........especially from someone as "old school" as ballou?

here is a guy that wants to take an open trailer (purchased for him by a fan) and drive half way across the country to race....cause he has a chance to finish well in usac national points (for himself and his usac car owner and team).....and cause he wants to race. no freakin toter and 52 foot trailer and motorhome.....just the will to race at almost any cost. thats not worth 20 or 30 dollars to know you helped? if not....stay home and watch F1 or nascar cause you dont deserve to be called a sprint car fan.

I would like to thank everyone on here for standing up to idiots like wilaski. I did this post solely as a fan trying to help out a driver that i cheer for and would do for most drivers in the same situation. I am a fan and have been for years. I think clowns that spread negativity on this site, that is supposed to be about a sport that has a forum like this and fan bases should be banned from posting his negative carp!
