Heskin winning it would be awesome. Last year probably wasnt quite what they wanted compared to the year before but the competition level was so high and a little bad luck sure didn't help him.
As for Garner I see no way hes not at Knoxville. Yes its a 4-5 hour drive but if thats where your backers are from and if thats where you race best at you're gonna make that trip. I'd rather drive 4-5 hours every Saturday to win or get top 3 than to run middle of the pack 30 mins from home. Its all about winning at this level and not about how much money it is to win.

Mid-Pack at Husets is far from the truth. Clint is one of the best at getting around that place. I tried to find a career win count for him at the track at was unable to. What I did find was this little bit of info in his bio:
"His first win at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota came in 1996, and he would win the 360 championship there in 2002. He dominated the competition at Huset’s that season, winning 10 times and taking home the track and NMRA championship."

Not bashing or arguing here, just want to point out that Garner is definitely not a mid-pack car at Huset's. He's as good, and arguably better then anybody there. Always a contender, even with limited starts over the last number of years. He ran once there last year and finished 2nd. His backing, Midwest Excavating, is a Sioux Falls operation. However, I do agree with you, he'll likely stick to K-ville. If Al Parker is the "backing" that you're referring to, then you've a good point. Again, not bashing, just wanted clear up a few things.
|
Agree, Garner is good a Huset's. For some reason, he just doesn't race there even though it's close to home.
Yes, I was refering to Al Parker (i believe he supplies the engines for Clint't team (not maintences them or builds them, but supplies them)). David Hesmer's dad is also a big part of that team (not sure if monetarily or not, but he's always in their pit area).
One thing is for sure, we just will never know until the haulers are in the infield every Saturday night all season.

I talked to a few Knoxville old timers & they seemed to think wingless cars were too slow, not really interested
But Ultimate Challenge wingless race at Oscaloosa seemed to have a decent crowd the 2 times I went (week between Kville 360s & 410s... lots of out of towners around for the week tho)
|
I do not know who these oldtimers are you talked to but Knoxville was non wing for alot of years. The main reason at the time was that 2-3 drivers a year were being killed and some car owners said they would not return unless they put wings on which makes car safer in wrecks. You would probably not know much difference unless you put non wing and winged cars on the track at same time.

Clint has 7 wins in 410s and 17 in 360s at Huset's.

unless the Keneric teamed pulled out of town last night or today, I'd look for Kerry Madsen to be there too (the rig was at the shop last night).

It can be done to have a non-wing show at Knoxville , but putting it in there schedule and in Oskaloosa is the tough part . Terry Mc Carl would like to have one back at his shows Monday or Tuesday . Sunday would be the day for Knoxville but they may not do it now because of there Sunday Capitani Classic
|
You're an idiot. The non wing shows had poor crowds at Knoxville and Osky. That's why they changed to running winged 410's on Sunday and that draws 5 times the crowd. Knoxville promoted their Non wing shows a lot. Even the non wing world championship of the SCRA. Never drew the crowds they needed.

I don't know who they were either, just random guys sitting in the stands. Nor do I know if they represent the typical Knoxville fan.
I remember seeing some stuff about that safety issue you mentioned. Karl Kinser & Bob Trostle?

Poor crowds you say...but they have great bleachers, great restrooms, and decent food, there's no way they could have poor crowds.

Ok so you say it can be done, go do it. You want to pick apart every little thing about every damn track in the country, well, here's your chance to show them all how it's done. You said Knoxville didn't promote their non wing shows good enough which implies that you know what would be good enough so put your money where your mouth is and pony up the money to make it happen. I'm sure if you are willing to pay the right price, Knoxville will gladly let you promote a wingless show. Like several others said, put up or shut up. This is the perfect opportunity for your to prove all your critics wrong.

I am not picking every track apart as you say Mr. fiXXXer . If I had the money or could get backing I would try it , as some comments state above , I think fans would like to see the non-wing guys at Knoxville again , and crowd wasn't great but crowd at Oskaloosa was great .

Henderson won 360 by more than 1000 points last year and don't know how many the year before.

Knoxville had some nonwing shows that weren't that succesfull. They also had a 2 day midget show in the 2000's that didnt pan out. Proving why this racetrack is one of the best in the world they thought outside the box and started a late model nationals at an open wheel track which has been a tremendous success and gigantic profit make for this track.

On the Clint Garner subject if he is doing the 360 routine again, does anybody know if he will be doing a Saturday Knoxville, Sunday Badlands schedule?

I for one am pleased with the Cappy Classic on Sunday night over the nonwangers! I attended the nonwangers but found them to be uninteresting to me. The Cappy race is probably the most talented field of drivers for a single night show all year. Knoxville is the best!

Please excuse my ignorance on Garner's record at Husets! I didn't know and should have checked the facts. One thing I will say is he is so dominant at Knoxville I just couldn't imagine him being that good anywhere else. I think it was his last year in a 360 at Knoxville he either had like 1 or 2 finishes outside the top 3 or 5. Again I don't have the time to check the stats currentl. With all these stats showing how good he is up at Husets it had me thinking. Is Clint more dominant at Husets then or at Knoxville? I'd be curious to see what others think. I certainly wasn't trying to bash Garner. Most only dream to have the success in a sprint car as he has already had.
