Actually, Kevin was timed in at 40th quick.(on the bubble) with 3 or 4 cars to go.  Chris Martin (#44) timed in faster and bumped Kevin to the P9 starting spot

Wayne Johnson was the 1st alternate (17th) I think.  Wayne toasted a motor  on his qualifying night and according to his Facebook site, said it was dead, and might be in trouble on Saturday night with only a little motor for a spare.

Lets say Rico pulls out of competition, moving Wayne up into the A.   Wayne only has the 360 for a spare, and bolts in in and does a Start and Park.  Would he be be suffering the same wrath as Rico.

Nothing against Wayne here, its just that he was next in line.  He mustve rounded up a 410 from somewhere, as he won the B on Saturday night.

Pardon me, 41st, not 45th.  Still no better than 420 points possible and absolutely 0% chance of locking into top 16.

Bunch of whinny crybabies that their driver didn't make the A of Knoxville.

Everyone had the chance to do it.  Even the weds night guys.  All you had to do is earn more points.

THEY DIDN'T

Tough SH**

I stand corrected about Kevin possibly making the top 16. He couldn't have.  His off chance of even making the A Main would have come on Friday night had he not been injured but no need to go there. The object of my point was that what Rico did was within the rules and he could have thumbed his nose at all you nay-sayers. Instead, the money did go to a good cause, and unlesss any of you can prove to be a mind reader.....don't pretend to know what Rico's motives were about anything!

I've got yet another different perspective on all this crap.  Rico's replacement driver could have at least gone out there and got in Donny's way a time or two!

(long sigh)

Sarcasm.

I picked up on it--but for future posts--you may want to mention that at the end.  Otherwise people start teeing off on you.  :)

it was bullshit and everyone knows it...had he not shown up wednesday, someone else wouldve been racing in the amain saturday...

he should not have raced wednesday with no intentions of racing saturday...he already said he won't run the national open now because he can't run for points thursday or friday or whichever day he's racing pavement....well where is the argument about his crew deserving to see the car out there and they work so hard everyday for it bla bla bla...oh it doesnt work both ways?

No you're wrong, everyone doesn't "know it". That kind of baseless statement is as stupid as grilling Rico over this. The guy raced his ass off, put on a show and earned some good money on Wednesday at the Nationals. What happened after that was his business to decide and his business alone. You simpletons crying in your bowl of wheaties about this sound like complete morons. I said it before and I will say it again, this isn't the first time a team has started and parked in the A main at the Nationals. Where was all this cause for concern then??? Who gives a crap what driver is in the car if its only taking a lap and pulling in? Also anyone who thinks Rico doesn't have sprint car racing as his number 1 passion doesn't even know anything. He LOVES sprint car racing but NEWSFLASH it doesn't make sense to pursue chasing $10,000 prizes his whole racing career when he clearly has the chops to race for millions each year! You can say you would do differently but then you'd be a liar. So much inflammed butt hurt I think you whiners need some better ointment for your sore blown out sphincters.

Cheers!

Granted this was an unusual circumstance, but not that unusual.  This was the 19th time in Nationals history a driver qualified for Saturday night has for one reason or another not started the A.  Some have had replacements, some have not..."buying" spots will never be allowed at the Nationals either...time to move on!

Well usually the A main is the top 24 cars. They started 25.So the 24 fastest cars plus Ricos were in the main. So how did Ricos car being in the main push anyone out of a qualifing spot.Cause they started one more car then they ussually do.

B-B-B-But the sanctity of Nationals has been forever compromised!  I ask you good sir, as I throw my hands to the sky in despair, whatever shall we do!?

(Sobs uncontrollably)  Whatever shall we do!?

LOL, couldn't have thought of a better response.  Our little piece of the racing world isn't very big.  We need to get over ourselves and thank Rico for the kind gesture.  ;)

Plus, he probably has a contract with NASCAR team that controls his choices

They're not even letting Larson run wingless at all, maybe a few winged races (???.... memory fading!)

exactly!

Kyle's dirt schedule at this point is the turkey night grand prix, the winter heat showdown, and the chili bowl.

The 25th starter was Lynton Jeffrey for winning the World Challenge on Friday Night. He wasn't put in because Rico wasn't there.

Right on. This has become a tradition at the Nationals, for the winner of the World Challenge, or a top 3 place finishing driver not already having a spot in the A Main for Saturday night..

3 or 4 yrs does NOT make a tradition.

They have traditionally started the 20 cars highest in points from the qualifying nights + the top 4 finishers out of Saturday nights B feature.

The recent changes to how the A feature is lined up is not the "tradition".

They should drop that 25th car BS long before it has time to become a tradition.   Next thing they'll start giving out "provisionals" to the top car that fails to qualify from every series and tracks around the world.

I understand substitutions.....How many "A" Main "Start and Parks" have there been in the past 55 years?

Hey dummy! The topic was the 25th starter. And I stated that it had become a tradition. # or 4 years can sure be the start of something!  As for the top 20 you refer to......the top 50 used to be locked in on Staurday night! 20 to the A....20 to the B and 10 to the C.....That WAS the tradition.....the problem was how to get any of the top drivers to run on Friday night. They quit showing for the Race of States and the Mystery Feature because the money was getting too good on Saturday night to risk equipment. So then Knoxville came up with the A,B,C Scrambles on Friday night. That didn't do it. So now, in recent years thay have gone to the top 16 for the A and the top 10 for the B, with the B drivers having the chance to come back and better their spot on Friday night as another full qualifying night. I think this format is here to stay.

"his first love is clearly not sprint car racing"

So I guess thats why he's running 5 dirt races in Pa. this week? Won $3500 at Path last nite.... if he sweeps all 5 races he'll make maybe a tenth of mediocre, mid pack NASCAR run

i believe the nascar k&n race paid 20k to win opposed to knoxville paying 150k

to me its like getting an invitation to a wedding and only showing up at the reception without a gift to get your steak and crab cake to go....hey it was my invitation, i earned it...still makes me look like a jerk

His priorities are where ever racecar driver is.  To make a living racing.  If he is succesful, then I see another driver putting back into the sport I love.(aka Stewart,Larson,Kahne)  Being a left coast person, I am a Rico fan, & I thought what he did was great.

I personally would have loved him to fly Tyler Walker out for the Finials, but that would have really pissed the haiters out there.  Tyler is having a good season, & I am glad he is getting another chance.

Now Tyler is a guy I'd love to see back at the Nationals one day. As for Rico and ppl saying he's gonna do what Kahne/Stewart/Larson have done. What makes anyone think he will or he won't. So he's running some pavement, don't mean shit really. Doesn't mean he'll make it to cup and even if he does, don't mean he'll field a WoO sprint car team. I guarantee one thing.....Knoxville will change their rules for next year so this kinda shit doesn't happen again.
