It's funny how quickly some people can jump on any decision or change thats made and say how bad and stupid it is. The long and short of it is, right now Turn2 does Not broadcast the Sat. night race anyways, so this is the opportunity for the race to be broadcast on HBO. I'm sure that someone at WRG has talked to CBS and other big networks about broadcasting races, they obviously aren't interested right now so to come out and say this is dumb they should broadcast on CBS, its not happening, not because of lack of effort but because whether you want it or not the other big networks obviously aren't biting.
Yes we get that some love Turn2 obviously, but just as a test go to the local Walmart and ask 10 poeple if they've heard of HBO and whether they've heard of Turn2 media, see which more people are familiar with. The WoO alone being able to advertise that the Sat. Nationals will be on HBO PPV is in my opinion pretty good(makes it sound like a big deal), sounds better than, well go to this site and then it'll link you to this site and then you pay with a paypal account and then once it buffers you can hook your computer up to your TV and boom your watching a race. Maybe this can help make the sport more legit in the public eye, rather than my wife laughing at me for listening to headphones on the laptop for 3 hours.:)

Speedkills, I am not ripping on the decision to try and get HBO, I am merely trying to understand why it is considered a better option than Turn2. I have not had problems with Turn2 and consider their product to be more than satisfactory.
True, HBO has more name recognition....but I wonder what it is worth since the exposure will be to roughly the same demographic (maybe this is not true...maybe HBO will buy a ton of advertising to target a different audience than Turn2 is capable of purchasing) as anything Turn2 or the WRG or the Marion Co Fair can purchase.
I have always believed in "support those that support you", hence my questions. I see this as a way to give Turn2 a boost so that they have capital to improve their already in place, every other event at the track infrastructure.

I always thought that the Saturday night of racing was the least bang for the buck anyway. If you were to show the Wed. and Thurs nights events which are generally the better nights you might be on to something. Most people are at home on those nights anyway not at their local racetracks like they are on Saturday....

I don't think anyone is saying this is dumb/bad/stupid, we all just have reasonable questions. I believe T2 hasn't offered the Saturday night stream online because of the tv rights or contract belonging to the Speed channel, not just because they've chosen not to. Putting a PPV up on a cable/satellite subscribed channel is not the same as being available on a basic local major network. I agree that there is the potential for reaching a greater audience through HBO, but that doesn't mean that there is no market for online streaming ppv, especially for a niche form of auto racing such as our beloved sprinters.
And if you hear the wife laughing at you listening to the races, you're not doin it right. Time for some new headphones!

What do you mean no commercials! How are we gonna make it without hearing that obnoxious, irratating Super Clean commercial that they usually play every 5 min.

I hear ya, maybe saying that people were calling things dumb or stupid was abit harsh, its hard on these forums sometimes to type a message that you hope makes a point but still doesn't make you look like your pissed, I'm not, just trying to get across that I think that the good in things can be pointed out sometimes too. My main thing is I see the name recognition of HBO alone as a good thing for the nationals, although most that come to this site know what turn2 to media is we're also the minority of even the sprint car world for the most part. I get the loyalty to Turn2, I just think this will be bigger than that and the Outlaws are a business and in the end they need to do what will sell the product to the most people possible.
I see it possibly playing out as that race fan that went to a WoO show at their local track but pays no attention to them otherwise, now they see or hear that there will be an HBO PPV of Knoxville, so they decide to check it out since they know they have saw them before. Just a thought.
Oh and the wife laughing thing, most of the time its more of a shaking her head at me cause she just doesn't get how I can listen to racing for that long.

What makes you think the WoO has anything to do with this?

My reason is unless this is totally out of the norm, why wouldn't the contract between them and the track give them(WRG), the complete control over the broadcast of the event. Do you think NASCAR lets each track determine how it should be broadcast, or the golf course on the PGA tour gets to decide how they want it broadcast? I'm not saying I have the contract between WRG and the Knoxville Speedway but I'm going off what the norm for who has the broadcast rights would be.

I think you should check this out and think you will find out this is the Knoxville Nationals not the WoO nationals
For several years it did not even have their name on it
Guess who is in charge

Since you do not know me or my background, can you please explain why my world is too small to understand that HBO is preferred in some way over Turn2?
Is it potential income? Exposure? Production quality? Convienence?
or do you not understand yourself?

Appears to me Vanh is about to enter a pissing match unarmed (or should I say undersized). LOL

I'm really not sure Van, I can't say I can prove my argument one way or the other as to whether WRG or Knoxville has the broadcast rights, short of calling one of the organizations and asking. I was going off of, like I said in the previous post what the norm would be in any sport, that the organization sanctioning the event would have the broadcast rights. What would suprise me is if Knoxville has control over the broadcast why they wouldn't allow Turn2 then to broadcast it on the Sat. night as well as they obviously have close ties to them.
Heres a thought, if I remember correct, the first 3 nights of the nationals are not WoO point nights, is it that the first 3 nights are unsanctioned and the Sat. night show is sanctioned and that's where the Sat. night broadcast issue comes in.

This is a great idea and needs to be promoted on forums like this. Any increase in exposure is good for sprint cars and this would definitely constitute an increase compared to the last couple of yrs. I still can't beleive that they don't show the nationals Sat. features live on regular TV. This would be a great alternative though. If not, boot Speed and let Turn 2 show everything in one package deal!

Right the first three nights setup the Sat.night lineup
Sat.is the only only one the WoO sanctioned
You are on top of this

The Outlaws get "show up" points for the week, technically it's WoO sanctioned.
It's sorta-kinda sanctioned IMO-- Knoxville Rules, Knoxville Officials, Knoxville Track Prep, Outlaws T-shirt trailer. Kinda like that "double-secret probation" they had TMAC on 5 years ago or so...

I too truly hope to go back there this year, however,in light of all the HBO dealings, makes you wonder just how much the track alone could make selling all four nights in a package deal, yes four nights Live, with a raindate too. for xxx amount of dollars....especially with the cost of the fuel nowdays to drive it....attendance has been down some the last few years but this might be the sparkplug to bring it back, show it once like that,a teaser, and the crowds might he bigger the next year....just a thought.

There are already BIG changes going on at the track that IMO are very positive including updated restrooms (I hear, will look thsi weekend if it doesn't rain for Practice Night), an APP for your smartphone so you can download line-ups and the like while sitting in the stands.
Been hearing VERY positive reviews from employees about new GM Toby Kruse. If the employees are a happy bunch, that rubs off on those attending and word will spread locally about how great of a place it is to go to the races.
Seeing very positive changes in more charities being involved with weekly racing including the Race for your School Night in April, JDRF Night in June, American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Mid-June, and Hospice Night in July. As well as the Knoxville Knockouts raising $$ for charity as well.
Looking forward to the season!

I too have heard nothing but good things about Kruse, starting about 5 or 6 years ago when he took over Mtown. My only worry is that the Marion CO Fairboard is now listening to someone who thinks IMCA is a good idea for racing in general. (no, not worried about the Taj Mahal dropping sprints for modifieds....I just fear the back gate promoting style that IMCA favors)

Everything I have heard in the last 4-5 years is that the Marion Co Fairboard WANTS more IMCA racing on off nights of the sprints. I have heard that they claim to make tons more $$$ on the Harris Clash than they do any other night of the year except the Nationals...
