Yeah, that move was ill-advised....

That being said, I thought Esh's maneuver on Gee was worse.

Hummmm, that guy that was saving his car on Thursday most have seen something. Man that track was great, Dewease was able to run bottom to top. I felt for Rico, I wish they would have found out what happened. I liked the 69k team using belt Sanders on the rear tires. They did say that the old tow rig is being repaired. So how many think they show up for the outlaws in a couple weeks ? I say they run the national open and only if things go well will they show up at port royal. Great run LD. If you didn't think that was a good race, your helpless.

Not sure what the official rules are, but if the yellow and checkered fly on the lap that the incident with Wise and another car on the backstretch, all the subsequent carnage would have been avoided. Looked to me like the leaders were close to passing the flag stand and would have had plenty of time to slow before getting to the site of the stopped cars on the backstretch.
Felt bad for the teams with the trashed cars. Could have run the non-qualifiers race for some prize money. Instead end up with destroyed cars and more expense.

Was thinking the same thing. IMO the checkered should have been thrown. The leaders were almost at the flag stand and the 2 sideways cars were on the backstretch. 6 cars destroyed after that.

Yeah that was 1 of the dirtiest, boneheaded moves I've ever seen. Chiapelli's should kick him to the curb after that. Too bad for Gee.

Lol!!! You just know WingedStrawser was just chomping at the bit to wake up this morning to critique Port and bash the 69k. Probably set his alarm to wake early, put on his strawberry shortcake jammies, sat down to tinkle then ran to the computer to make his enlightening comments about the 69k and luck. Lord knows luck plays no part in motorsports, lol. So stupid.

I never understood why the leader can be so close to taking the checker and a yellow comes out, than they have to do 2 more laps. HOw is that fair to the leader?

I think the esh/gee deal was just 2 guys that were not going to lift no matter what. It was for the last spot in the Tuscarora 50. Hindsight can say it was a stupid move, but neither guy gave a inch. Racing hard, you betcha. Smart ? They both would probably do the exact same thing. Neither give a inch.

I was thinking that same thing, I think they said that pit guy was Brad Strawser? Surely it can't be the same guy who's on here all the time slamming Port and the track prep?

Coincidentally, he was lucky enough to stay out ahead of 20 or so other racers to win. ;)

Yea no one blamed Gee for that. Esh made a potentially lethal move and wrecked both cars to try and save a spot that paid $1500 to start. It was idiotic.

it seems like the level of nonsense has really gone up this year. the "rubbing is racing" attitude doesn't apply to sprint cars unless we're comfortable getting people hurt or killed on a regular basis. somebody needs to show me the place on a sprint car where you can run into each other. i don't really care if it was the tuscarora 50 for $53,000.
it's only my 3rd year following after being a lifelong nascar fan. if getting people hurt or killed has been good with everyone then i got the sport wrong by how everyone reacted after greg hodnett was killed. i
somebody mentioned in the heffner thread that they miss hodnett. i don't miss him in the sense the 72 isn't running well because the driver isn't the issue. i get the feeling maybe he was a source of intelligence and maturity. as great as dewease's drive was with a broken wing at the grove during speedweek...i was more impressed that hodnett took care of him in the closing laps when he could have run him over. i wasn't used to hard but CLEAN racing as a nascar fan. it seems like there needs to be somebody in the pits going up to guys like jared esh and the others involved in the first wreck telling them sometimes it's better to just throw the ball out of bounds and live to fight another down.

How d you see the incident? I watched video highlights, and all I saw was that the two cars seemed to be running side by side heading for the flagstand and bonked together. Did Esh purposely turn left into Gee? If so, to what purpose? For me, it was hard to tell if Esh was moving left, Gee was moving right, or both at the same time.

The level of intensity definately has gone up not sure about nonsence. the top level of any sport is tough and sprint car racing is no different, you don't get to the top level by being a nice guy.
Most people liked Greg, but I remember him running into people also, its part of the sport. I can't think of many high profile winning drivers that haven't banged wheels hard during their careers.
IMO take the wings off, hell take the cages off.....then we'll see how many of todays racers really want to race.

Looked to me like Esh was a little loose coming out of the corner when he drifted down into Gee. It didn't look to me like he turned into him. The angle they showed though is kind of hard to tell.

If they would have just let the leaders take the checkers the first time when wise and someone else were stopped on the backstretch it would have saved alot of equiptment.
