Could happen every night if unhooked them with smaller tires and a wing angle rule, but would save too much money, make for too much passing and take the dirty air away.

I gotta believe that track conditions had a lot to do with it. A dry slick, dust storm, small track kinda takes away the horsepower advantage.

I agree with this assessment. You hit the nail squarely on the head.

I think part of it was lack of 410 cars. If you had 30 410 s and 6 360 s, it would have looked different. The 360 did do a good job and I am sure these were the better 360 in area. I would also say a 410 that hit 950 HP on a dyno never ever sees 950 HP at the track. Dyno HP is under controlled conditions. Cool air blowing into injection stacks. Open exhaust when some tracks require mufflers. Full throttle runs when you can not do it at times on a dirt track. The feul is adjusted for the most HP. Most teams are trying to take HP out of engines on dry tracks.

I have never seen a track that looked like glass early in the event that didn't lock down rubber by the end. That new York dirt is some odd stuff.

Or they had to run smaller harder tires and non-adj wing, 15 degrees, plumb bob in front of rear axle.

How many times does it have to be proven that a top end 360 isn't that much cheaper than a similar quality 410?
You won't see a drop in price unless there is a spec engine or very strict rules on component.

if they unhooked them so you could spin the tires you wouldn't need any engine rules. Could build a cheap unlimited motor for half the cost.

Whether you agree with him or not I think Cubic's point went over all your heads.

The NY guys that ran near the front - 10, 01 had 410's under the hood.

For a 360 to be competitive against a 410 a lot depends on track size and how the track prep is progressing thru the night.
Take the grove, port royal and Selinsgrove a 360 wouldn't have a chance. You go to a place like attica, lernerville and mercer a 360 could run possibly top 5.
That 950HP is used for 1 thing. The dreaded 2 laps on the clock.

I'll say it one more time. Varin, Paulie C., Trenca, Franek for sure have 410 motors and I'm pretty sure Wight does also. Not sure about the other NY cars. A 360 might have been an advantage in the feature especially running the low line. Track was very slick for sure, good racing with a lot of passing though.

No one is advocating for 360's, in fact the exact opposite!
Hell... build a 430 if that trips your trigger, a stroker crank is way cheaper than the latest and greatest heads. The point was that unhooked race cars, whether done mechanically or by track conditions level the playing field and make for better racing period.
Then 7 out of every 10 nights that 360, 410, 430 doesnt matter nearly as much.
You na sayers are correct... it will never happen, not because the difference of cost between a 410 and 360 its beacuse the WoO will never allow rule changes that give up the full timers advantages; Ultra Light - Extremely Hooked Up - Monster HP is what sets them apart from most of the locals and makes them the Greatest Show On Dirt!

Well stab-steer wins the prise, he at least got the point of the original post. Argue about engine size and cost all day but that was Cubic's point.

Nah, dirt track racing is about passing, back and forth battles for position. The best conditions for that is when the track slicks off and the cushion gets up near the rail - WIDE AND RACEY. The best drivers and best set up cars shine. I hate that high speed conveyor belt racing on a narrow track with a heavy low cushion. They may be going fast but without much passing or side by side, it's boring as hell - a high speed parade. Selinsgrove was like that AGAIN last night and although it's my hometown track, I'm about done with it. That's why they get few cars and fan count is dwindling. I'll take Port Royal or Weedsport any day. If I just wanted to see speed, I'd watch drag racing.

Do you remember that the things that Cubic advocates were in affect at the time that you claim to have gotten interested in sprint car racing. Were they boring then? If they were what captured your interest? You had to have wetter tracks then because the cars were not as locked as they are today.
