I think it should be an "open tire rule". I use the term loosely, as there does need to be a choice of tires that can be run, but they need to be given that choice. I would limit it to a certain few tires allowed. That will keep big money teams from buying a tire everyone else cannot afford for instance. Many teams could then choose to have multiple tires in their hauler if they like different tires for different conditions, OR they could make a sponsorship deal with one manufacturer and run that brand exclusively. My thoughts.

Really? The racing with Hoosiers was typically too locked down with as poorly as the Goodyears worked at least it improved the racing. Hooked up tires equal shit racing.

i like the idea of a Spec tire, which can even out the field so noone had a tire advantage. However im also a fan of a open tire because of how many option is opens up for the drivers and teams. Whichever direction they go, i hope the racing stays good

I always like the open tire rule. Hoosier vs. Goodyear vs American Racer...thats the way it should be!

Too much money for the sanctioning bodies, promoters, and track owners for them to go to a open tire rule.
This was posted over on www.pitgate.com from Rich Farmer promoter at Fremont. Interesting numbers:
Anyone wanting to call me directly that is a team owner that spends money to race a car at my race track is free to do so and we can discuss options ideas thoughts on tires going forward. I will tell you now that open tires are not a option that we are thinking unless someone can prove to me that teams will save money doing it.
Hoosier open tire cost $240 per RR
Hoosier SC spec tires $215 per RR
American Racer open tire cost is $200 per RR
American Racer MC tires $190 per RR
2013 Goodyear tire cost $259 per RR $249 LR and $205 fronts.
For the record it isn't that Goodyear wants out of the tire business they plan to continue building tires it is just at the cost they have set pricing so high that we won't consider that a option. Every one that was on the National tire has made it clear that we need to keep the cost in line with the market.

This was a no brainer when the low amount of Goodyear supply was available heading to the Nationals. Cleaning out the warehouse.

i had heard last week from what i considered a knowledgeable source that goodyear was going to announce it was out after the nationals.
even then i wasn't quite sure, because you never know. you know what i mean?
i have always thought competition made for better pricing and better products. so not limiting the brand of tire would be a good thing in my opinion. the thing is the tire companies have to each be able to make a competitive tire. i am not talking about a total open tire rule. i am talking about a choice on approved tires from different companies. let the racers choose what brand they like best. hopefully that will help get the pricing even more competitive. the thing is, there always seems to be one brand that ends up being more popular, or performs better.

Exactly. And then when one brand becomes more popular than the others, the less popular brand will have to sweeten the pot by lowering their price to get some drivers to buy them, run them and endorse them. Then there would be competition and supply and demand would drive the prices like it does everything else in this world. (with the exception of oil and gas--driven by oil companies using politians like puppets--for another conversation)

AMERICAN RACER TIRE RETURNS TO URC WITH GREAT PRICING
Plans for the 2012 Rislone URC Sprint Series are well underway and a big announcement includes the return of American Racer as the official tire of URC. Some great pricing is being offered with URC using a portion of their sponsorship revenue to offset the tire cost. URC Managing Member John Zimmerman worked out the tire prices for 2012 which includes $159 for right rears, $155 for left rears and $138 for all front tires.
