Had watched the first few races in the Chase.  (Had a couple of cars in a local fantasy pool--Larson and Keso)  Haven't watched since they were both eliminated. Had some "fill-in" time between watching the terrible Chicago Bears and the Hockey game tonight.  So....Turned on the last half of the race and here's what I observed:

1.  Kyle Larson drove all the way from 20th and a lap down up to 3rd and fighting for the win.  Not mentioned one single time.  Why?  Because it's no longer important who is competing for a win when there are "Chasers" in the field.

2.  Alex Bowman had a chance to become an incredible story if he were able to go up there and win out of nowhere!  But wait......there is an incredible fight for 3rd, 4th and 5th.  Let's concentrate on 4th place for 30 laps and explain tie-breakers for 30 minutes.  There was actually a point where Kyle Petty suggested that Logano let Harvick go so he had time to pass Kyle Busch.  Are you shi%^ing me?   Why would any red-blooded racer let someone else go when they are fighting for the spot at the end of a race.

3.  Kevin Harvick doesn't care for Logano or Kyle Busch.  However, it became clear who he hates more.  He CLEARLY fell back in line behind Logano thinking he was screwing Busch out of a chance to advance.  No doubter.  Once again, why does a pass for 4th place matter two races from the end of the season?  Because of a pile of $hit points format.  Nascar has put themselves in a position for this type of situation.

4.  There were comments made about some of the non-Chase drivers staying out of the way of the Chase drivers.  Are you f%#&$g kidding me?   Why?  Every race shoud be about winning every race.  If I were out there, I would truly not care one bit where someone else was running in points. I wouldn't drive them dirty.....but I wouldn't just give em 30 feet and olay!

5.  Kyle Busch comes over the radio before a restart and asks Matt Kenseth to take the bottom lane so both cars can get into the final round at Miami.  Kudos to Matt for saying "NO".  Why?  Matt wanted to win the race!  What?  Win the race?  Good for him.  He didn't get the final prize this year but at least he did the right thing and fought for the win and not for the teamate bulls$%t!

Man I love sprint car racing.  They are there to win THAT race, every night.  At the end of the night, tally up the points.  None of this underhanded crap that goes on every Sunday.

Great post egras! I quit watching NASCAR after about the second year of the chase. It had nothing to do with who was or wasn't winning the points chase. Although I think it's a crime that a driver risks his life running hard for points for what 27 races (?) only to have to let a whole slew of drivers back into an opportunity to steal everything that driver had gained. Racing is not like any stick and ball sport and never will be. The great golfer Bobby Jones once said that the entire game of golf is played in an area of 5 inches.....the distance between our ears. Those who control NASCAR have a 5 inch dead area exactly there.....between their ears! I think in it's place is a cash register.

Ok, I'll bite. What changed in '88 that made it a joke?  Restrictor plates? I mean they did need them after Bobby Allison damn near pulled a LeMans '55 at Talladega.

Ford has three titles in that span. Kulwicki in '92, Kenseth in '03, and Busch in '04. I mean that's gotta give you wood right?

The chase is not the issue, it's the crappy racing and lack of marketable personalities.

I think the racing personalities are there.  (In my opinion)  Plenty of feuds.  Plenty of controversy.   As a whole, the racing is on the verge of being terrible--although today it wasn't bad in the 150 or so laps I watched.  When on mile-and-a-half tracks--which is every other week--the cars have the aerodynamics of bulldozers when they pull up to another car.

Sure, all of the theatrics made it artificially "exciting" today as you didn't know what was going to happen and who was going to be in next week.  But, most race fans feel insulted that they are cramming this make believe drama down their throats.  Chris Buescher in the Chase?  Why not just have a rock-paper-scissors tournament for a 17th spot?

I looked into a couple of websites after I made my original post.  5 drivers had a mathematical chance at the championship going into today's race with the OLD points system.  That's not exciting enough?  With that said, 3 of those drivers are not even eligible (including Kevin Harvick-who had a 27 point lead over everyone with the old system) to win the championship and 2 guys that would have been eliminated 3 weeks ago will take their places.  (Jimmie and Carl)

Good thing the driver's paychecks are big enough to keep their mouths shut.  I would bet most of the drivers and teams in the garage think their sport is a big joke.  From the Chase right down to the clowns calling the races to  dip$hit Michael Waltrip dancing down pit road acting like a preschool teacher.

Season finale next Sunday!  Thank God my wife made plans for us so I'm not tempted to turn it on!

Only race I have watched start to finish was the Daytona 500 this year. attempted several others but just can't make it past lap50 after a competitionor debris caution. The racing sucks the cars suck and other than Larson and stenhouse I have no driver of interest

Of the four finalists I don't want Johnson to tie Earnhardt and Petty's 7 title record since he did not earn them and I don't feel they are legitimate. Kyle Busch is an a**hole and I can't stand him. Lagano is a spoiled rich kid that cries about everything so no on him. that leaves Carl. the walking human marketing machine . Out of all of them....give me Schatz winning the nationals any day. will be more entertaining at least

The only thing I am happy about is that NASCAR provides the money for Tony, Kasey, and Kyle to field sprint car teams.

That has been a hotly contested debate for years, do KKR and TSR give back to the sport by supporting the WoO or have they chased off owners that can't/won't spend NASCAR $$$ to compete against them?

Unless I am not remembering correctly, I see no decline in the number of full time regulars that have followed the WOO since KKR and TSR jumped in.  ?

If memory serves me, I remember years with 8 cars or less following the circuit back before those cars entered the fray.

But......have the big budget teams forced teams at the local level hardship when it comes to funding teams? I think with the rash of drivers now looking for rides that don't exist, and with teams cutting back and even folding, the answer is yes. Back when the WoO had 8 (your number) cars and less following the tour, the fields were as big or bigger than they are now at WoO shows. And there were more WoO shows on the schedule.

Petty did the same thing Allison did with the plate in the very first race with it and we still have the sicko thing 30 years later.  The 9 and the 28 in the mid eighties at Talledga was one of the most impressive displays of balls, speed, power and ass kicking in the history of motorsports.  Now we have restricted Toyotas with a child's game format to decide a so called champion.  If we can just get some muslim trannys to drive them we'll be all set.

Another year or two should be enough for the handful of unamerican, former water polo enthusiast, clueless souls still going to nascar spectacles ( I refuse to call them races).  If Isis could do another replica of a small block Ford, it would be pure utopia.
