Should be a pretty solid turnout with the WoO/All Stars/ASCS either being finished or not running that weekend.  Hopefully that R word stays away.

Who does the PPV for this race?

ASCS conveniently scheduled a race that weekend but still expect a number of good drivers to attend. The Cushion is doing the PPV.

Sorry, I won't ever go back to that hole in the wall again. Don't get me wrong , the racing is great! The facility is the worst I have been to. I have been to 26 tracks chasing Sprint Car racing all over the Midwest for the last 30 years. Last time I went to I-30, the Men's room smelled like a urinal. I used the Johnny on the Job instead. The track food was horrible. Every thing I bought over the 3 days I was there, was cold and was garbage. The stands were in such terrible shape I thought someone would fall through them before the night was over.  The wood planks were rotting and split every where. Real good racing but I-30 is a real hole in the wall. I-30 will not see another dollar of mine!!!

Sounds like 90 percent of the dirt tracks in America,  but you got me at the men's room smelled like a urinal.... hello,  it is!

Ah, so they did.  That was considerate of them.

From what I have heard is that if they do to many renovations costing $X amount then they break some land lease with the city. I went there for 3 years and they made small improvements but if complaining about the smell of a bathroom is on your list then you may wanna frequent more nascar tracks and stay away from dirt tracks. I have never had cold food besides my drinks. They did replace alot of the wood planks prior to the WoO race this past spring.

It's a fact that it tracks could use more support to keep the sport alive.  While I share your views about rest rooms and can overlook it things like this keep my wife, friends and family away from the race tracks.

I do not have a dog in this fight, but this topic regularly gets brought up this time of year.   The cynic is me has always read this in disbelief.   Does the lease literally say that they cannot make any improvements to the facility or it voids the lease?

Or does it say that any improvements made to the facility will become part of the facility and there will not be any compensation when the lease ends?  Or does it say that any improvement over X dollars has to go through a review by the city planners?   Or does it say that any improvements have to incorporate the current ADA regulation?

I would be willing to bet a steak dinner that the answer is in the second paragraph and not the first one.

Finally, as someone else stated, the condition of the bath room will not deter the hard core fans, but the promoter will go broke with only die hard fans.   He needs the casual fans to make money and the condition of the bath rooms is definitely an issue to the casual fan.

There is no lease in the equation. The Clay family owns the property outrigh. The problem is with obtaining city permits for renovatioand. The property is grandfathered in under previous development guidelines and requirements.

in a nutshell, the city won't issue permits.

i can understand where bathrooms being clean is important to many, as the times i went to knoxville nationals the bathrooms were clean at the beginning  of the night but by the  end  it was last place you wanted to go the bathroom, especially to sit on toilet. alot of this was from people drinking to much and throwing up or developing  the hershey squirts.  i have not been to knoxville in a while so hope this is better. remember going to the 360 races during  labor day weekend at the now closed lake ozark speedway and the restroom was as clean at the end of the night as the beginning. of course lake ozark speedway had a bathroom attendant on duty all night in the bathroom. i agree if we want crowds to grow and go beyond the hard core fans we need to draw in casual fans and keeping clean bathrooms wouldn't hurt.

JonR - and all - for that matter,

There was a very very popular track that I worked with for many years that spent an amazing amount of money on improvements to the property over the course of a decade, making it better and better, under the guise that when they were in a position to buy it, it would be theirs at a pre-agreed upon price. And they did everything on a handshake agreement over the course of time.

Then, when the track became successful, the property owner got greedy and didn't hold up their end of the bargain...and the promoter leasing it left, the track closed within a year; and now everyone loses.

There's a real problem with tracks closing nationwide, and many more on the precipice of doing so.

If everyone that cares about this sport would just do one thing, on a selfless level, it would be a good start to a healthier future.

Example:

-Get with your local track and get approval to 'sell' a small sponsorship package to the company you work for as a co-op promo, which is a small ticket exchange for presenting the track with a small event sponsorship.

-Then go up to your boss and hit them up for a $200 event sponsorship (for example). Tell them that they'll receive 8 comp tickets (make it commensurate with the sponsorship amount) to the race that night from the race track, and that the track will announce their sponsorship for the '$200 Hard Charger award by ABC Company'...for example...and your boss can use the tickets for top performers in the company (as team building) or their better customers; etc.

-All of these 'value-added' type components help bump up the event for the track (if prepublicized), which attracts more race teams, which helps sell tickets, and gives businesses an easy and effective way to get their business in front of the gen pop...and as an even added bonus, the fans will get to see a better event.

-And once businesses and tracks make this most basic of 'contact' with each other, this certainly will lead to repeat, or even bigger 'true' event sponsors and long-lasting relationships.

Just think of all the people in the stands and in the pits, if even 1 out of 10 at each track would actually have the guts and that truly 'I love this sport' (that you hear all too often on the forums) to go hit up their employer.

There are hundreds of dirt tracks that race weekly, and the chain reaction would result in literally millions of dollars in racing sponsorships nationwide.

A lot of times, misconceptions keep things like this from happening. But it's not hard at all. Try it once and see. I've been doing things like this for over 35 years, and it absolutely works and is not hard to do at all.

Businesses give out money to every flippin' stick-and-ball sport out there, plus a litany of other 'causes', so why not support the local race track, that drives customers to area restaurants, gas stations, hotels and other area attractions...not to mention employees of regional/national racing businesses that are there for race team support.

Most businesses don't know how easy it is to work with a track on an affordable level. They just need a push in the right direction.

And to the 1 person in 10 out there that says 'me buying a ticket as a fan is enough support, it's someone elses job to go get a sponsor,' well, you're part of the problem, not part of the solution - and are probably the same 'fans' putting up slam posts on the track FB page the day after the race with a list of mistakes made the night before at the track you went to. Just remember, the vast majority of track workers do what they do for their love of the sport - not for the small amount of money they may get for keeping you entertained and the track staying open.

It doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement at local tracks, but if it's done in a tactful, productive way directly with the track management, it will have a lot better chance of having success implementing change.

Smile

The 'early entry' promo ends at close of business tomorrow 10/26, and typically Lonnie puts out a PR the day or two after...so by Friday.

DRIVERS not yet entered can save over $200 by waiting to enter next week...if they go to http://www.i-30speedway.com/shorttracknationals.html and get registered by Wednesday at 5pm.

There, you can also find Lonnie's latest PR's and driver announcements.

The only night they got in last year was a one hell of a show !!! Haudenschild and Reutzel were absolute maniacs on that cowboy up track ! No doubt balls of steel hang on them both ! Haud coming from 12th and Reutzel 13th, with Reutzel taking Haud at the end ! Couldnt have written that one any better. I hope Haud is going to make it and I heard Reutzel may be there. I would spend the night in that nasty assed restroom If I was gaurenteed to see a race like last years ...!

X2.

To back up the statements in your race recap, here's some video clips I shot of the action from that night:

Haud - he took racing on the 'high groove' to a new meaning, as he really didn't spend much time 'on' the track surface:

Wild I-30 Action with Hahn, TBJ, Bellm & Reutzel - watch til final checkers!

And this one is a reminder of why all eyes are on Tim Crawley when he hits the Clay's clay...
