So I actually took the time to read about this event and what I read did not sound good.  This is a 3 day racing show (4 if you count the Thursday night rock concert) that has both the WoO and USAC racing.  Sounds great to most any race fan, right?  Then I read where the WoO guys will be racing on Friday night only (Qualifying event and no USAC) and that the USAC guys will be racing on Saturday night only (qualifying event and no WoO).  Then they are going to run the feature events for both series on Sunday night.  As if that wasn't bad enough (everyone sit down before you read any further) they are charging $60.00 general admission for Friday and Saturday night and $75.00 general admission for Sunday night.  So you are paying $60.00 each for a stand alone event (WoO Friday and USAC Saturday) and then $75.00 to watch both series on Sunday night. For that kind of money I would at least expect to see both series run all 3 nights but also considering that kind of money for any show I can guarentee I would never go as I'd be broke, especially after just coming off 10 days at Knoxville.  Anyone have any thoughts on this?

$30 for adult general admission ticket for Saturday night WoO race at Knoxville. Mr payday loan wants double that! Plus another $75 to see the features on Sunday night! $195 for 3 nights? No way I pay those prices for that show. Especially not right after the Nationals.

JMO  but I think this guy is a pro at making money by ripping people off. Be interesting to see how this works out cause I doubt he wants to spend any of his money on the races. So if the crowds are not there to pay the bills and put cash in his pocket things could change up there fast. Cut purses or cut out the racing altogether. He has already shown he is shady by putting out a schedule before he actually has dates signed.

Has he started any of the $3 - $5 million in improvements he says he is going to make yet? You know, the ones that will make his track the premier dirt track in America!

Only thing new is that WOO and USAC have committed though Chuck had been saying they were coming. Prices are definately up there. He is planning on 60+ wings and 50+ non wing.

If they get more is it worth it? and if the get less? Hard to say till it happens i guess.

A little cheaper yes but isn't Knoxville Nationals stand alone events in a way. With only features the last day.

I will consider this event but will see how things play out getting closer first. I'll save a bout 40 bucks in gas if the price stays down so i'll aply that to the high ticket price

I would say that this guy can keep his Badlands Speedway.    I could be mistaken but I don't see where too many racing fans are going to be interested in a concert.     I also think the high ticket prices on the heels of Knoxville is a big mistake, but I guess we'll see how it plays out.

This has "disaster" written all over it. If any track in Pa ever decides to charge that much for so little, I'll be the first to tell them to shove that one right up their ass where it belongs. I guess he has the right to set whatever prices he wants but I just can't see too many race fans, most of which are blue collar people who live pay check to pay check spending that kind of money on a race like that. It'd be one thing if this was a Knoxville Nationals type of even where you get 4 full days of as much racing as you can handle but this seems hardly worth. I'm about as die hard as they come and I wouldn't pay it so I'd assume most others wouldn't either. The more I see from this guy, the more he looks like an absolute moron who has hundred dollar bills where his brain should be. I sure as hell hope no one like him ever gets there hands on Williams Grove or any other Pa track.

I wonder if he will set up a payday loan counter right next to the ticket booth.

He better, that way fans can get a loan to pay for tickets to the race.

You have the best winged an non wing sprint cars in the world at one place for a three day event, that has a pretty nice purse to boot, what is he supposed to charge, to me its kind of nice to see a promoter that is trying to take care of the race teams first, and you can thank Chuck for getting these weekly purse up there, I would bet the farm that the NSL and Knoxville would have stayed the same if it wasn't for BMS weekly purse, so you can thank that Bozo for that. Oh by the way brand new lighting, 2 huge video scoreboards and all the old bleachers are gone and the the replacements from Daytona are being installed now, oh and a 3 story tower being built. Give the man a break seems to me he trying get money back to the racers, seems like a lot of people act like Todd Q and the NSL and Knoxville are doing this not to make any money.

Sorry,  no break given to an outsider who comes in thinking he can change the world by undermining the strongest weekly sprint show in the country and gouging the fans by asking them to pay double the going rate for a similar show.

I know one thing....if I was a competitor, employee or vendor,  I would not take a check from this man.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, and if you think what he's charging is fair then by all means pay it and enjoy yourself.   As for me, I wouldn't and it sounds like many other fans won't either.

Why not take a check?

There have been a lot of these high dollar shows put on by outsiders that think they know what they are doing that have ended with bad checks or just plain not getting paid.   I predict a very small crowd, certainly not enough to cover a quarter million dollar purse.

More often than not these type of shows end up hurting the sport instead of helping it.

Well this used to be my favorite place to watch sprint cars besides Knoxville, not anymore. I would have to take a loan out just to take my wife and kids. I bet he will charge 10 bucks for a dam hotdog and 5 bucks for a 12oz pop. Sorry Chuck, you just ruined me ever attending a race there ever again.

Just say he gets 4000 people a night. That's $780,000.00 in his pocket plus pit gate and consessions. The purse is $250,000.00 How is that taking care of the racers first? The racers and the food for the consessions are same to him, an expense.

So to compare this event to some other events:

  • Eldora's 2day WoO/USAC show in may (they race both each night) and pay maybe $30 or less. Total of $60 for both nights. Thats not including $2 beers.
  • 4day Knoxville nationals lower grandstand $173 lower grandstand, $185 middle, $198 upper.
  • Eldora Kings Royal 3day event. $87 total for General Admission. You can add the Brad Doty classic to that during the week and probably are at $110 total.

Not too sure how much the 3day national open General admission ticket is or a Chili Bowl week general admission ticket is but i am sure it is in the same range as this event. Seems like you can go to many other events and get more for your money and they have just as good of a purse as this event. I think the reason why the tickets are soo much is because of the rock concert that is happening. I'd much rather go to the Nationals, Kings Royal, National Open and see 1 class race.

I thought the Sprint car portion was going to be non sanctioned and like he said all the sanctioning body's can fly their flags I guess that goes away with the WOO sanction

Good post but a couple things are a bit skewed.  You can't really count the Chili bowl or the Doty Classic as big money races.  The Chili bowl pay is very dissapointing, it is more of a prestige thing and the promoters make an aboslute killing on it.  In regards to the Doty race, I have never understood why this race is included in the "month of money" category as it is a plain Jane ordinary 1 day Outlaw purse that is 10 grand to win.  Nothing special at all about it.  Not really deserving of a "big money" race.  All in all I get your overall point though.

The race may be when it is to take advantage of teams and fans being in the same part of the country after the Nationals. Plus, the promoter had to work around USAC's schedule as well. For years and years people complain about how the racers need to be running for more money - the Kings Royal jump in purse was years overdue - so when a guy is trying a huge special event in no-man's land all people do is complain. Staying home won't cost you a penny so what's the beef? I live in Indiana and have read about Huset's for 40 years in NSSN and a big race like this, maybe a one time only event, just may get me up there. I don't know what the format is yet as far as A-Mains being run on the qualifying nights or not and I need more info but going is a definite possibility. Maybe we need to see how the season is going at Badlands earlier in the year as the whole big race may blow up before August. Hey, it's change and people hate change but it won't cost you a dime if you don't go. Many people called Earl crazy when he started the Kings Royal and look how that has turned out. I'll pay good money to see the absolute best in both forms of sprint car racing go for the big bucks. Knoxville, the HOME of sprint car racing, should have done something like this years ago.

The payout sheet shows A,B,and C mains on qualifying nights. So you get the full show for your sixty bucks.
