Only thing new is that WOO and USAC have committed though Chuck had been saying they were coming. Prices are definately up there. He is planning on 60+ wings and 50+ non wing.

If they get more is it worth it? and if the get less? Hard to say till it happens i guess.

A little cheaper yes but isn't Knoxville Nationals stand alone events in a way. With only features the last day.

I will consider this event but will see how things play out getting closer first. I'll save a bout 40 bucks in gas if the price stays down so i'll aply that to the high ticket price

Where is 50+ non wing cars going to come from?

thats a good question. I have no idea.  Four crown can draw that many maybe some indiana sprint week shows. But thats with a bunch that likely wont travel that far.

Absolutely rediculous ticket prices when compared to the other major events. I'll probably make between 25 and 30 races next year and not one will be at Huset's. I stopped going there about 12 years ago and I see no reason to start going back.

The payout sheet shows A,B,and C mains on qualifying nights. So you get the full show for your sixty bucks.

Maybe he will fill the B & C with some of those 410 horse power spring cars he was talking about!

The USAC portion is a non-points event....

I cannot not justify the price of a ticket for the event

Haha, this message board at it's finest.

The ticket prices are too high, I'll admit that. But I'm much more likely to travel to middle of nowhere South Dakota now than I ever was before. I hope it works out.

Good post but a couple things are a bit skewed.  You can't really count the Chili bowl or the Doty Classic as big money races.  The Chili bowl pay is very dissapointing, it is more of a prestige thing and the promoters make an aboslute killing on it.  In regards to the Doty race, I have never understood why this race is included in the "month of money" category as it is a plain Jane ordinary 1 day Outlaw purse that is 10 grand to win.  Nothing special at all about it.  Not really deserving of a "big money" race.  All in all I get your overall point though.

Actually I got a bit side tracked on that. I put the chili bowl just because it is a big event in general...not really sure what the purse actually is on it to be honest but i know it spans more days than this badlands event and you probably can go to that for just as much as this Badlands race. I just put the Brad Doty race into the Kings Royal week to show that you can go to two tracks and probably with travel spend less on 4 races at 2 tracks for the same cost as this Badlands event.

I get the whole giving back to the racers charging the ticket prices for this is kind of ridiculous. It seems like this will be just a regular show Thursday and Friday that would normally run a fan 30bucks general admission. I think this guy is charging these prices to pay whatever band he has playing on Thursday

I wonder if this show will get cancelled early if pre-sales are in the toliet?    Didn't he get himself in some hot water this year for something similar?

I don't get all the complaints about this track. I am excited that my hometown track has 5000 to win and 2500 to win weekly 410 and 360 shows. Hopefully the cars and fans show up in good numbers and midwest promoters find out the way to profit with a race track is NOT to add endless classes of back gate junk. If it doesn't work then it doesnt work. The track was destined to die in another 5 years with the hideous promotion tactics of the Rubins anyway. People are acting like this track was perfect before Brennan bought it, it wasn't, it sucked and had been going downhill for 10-15 years. The place cannot be any worse. I agree the Gold Cup prices are on the high side but if you don't like it don't go, good God no need to cry about it on Hoseheads 9 months ahead of time.

The people who don't like it or don't trust the new owner like myself won't be there. I will take my money to knoxville or eldora where I know what I'm getting, and not worry about getting blindsided by something shady.

It's kind of odd that so many on here complain about the ticket prices but have no problem going to concerts that cost at least as much, if not more, especially when you add in all the ticket fees, pay to park, etc. Geez, what does it cost to go to a pro game of any sport or a big-time college game?  You could spend $195 to see the Cleveland Browns play a three hour game or see three nights of racing for the same price. I'll take the racing. Anytime I take an expensive vacation and somebody ask me what it cost I say "Who cares? If I wanted to save money I would've stayed at home."

there are things to go to besides races? Had to sit back and think about it. many many years since i been to those other things you mention. Wait i hit a wisconsin BB game last week but it was a free ticket and we parked on the street .

Well anyhow I am not complaining about the prices. i did say they seem high which is a fact. Promoters I supose have to learn what price is going to bring them the most revenue. higher prices and less fans vs cheaper and lots of fans.

i am also considering making the trip. Never been there and would like to see racing at this track. The idea of wing and non wing and this size track also interest me. I will however follow how things pan out as the season unfolds there.

The difference is that dirt track fans typically support their local track with family in tow on a weekly basis.  Sure we all attend pro sports and concerts from time to time at higher ticket prices but not on a weekly basis.  I have only ever been to the former Husets a couple of times, it's five hours and there are closer racing destinations, so I'm just making this point as an outside observer and not someone who is likely to go there.  Nevertheless, dirt track fans are pretty much the same everywhere, up here we have $12 to $15 weekly gate prices and pay $20-$25 for a regional series like IRA for example.  That's good entertainment and a good value, families support the races week in and week out.  Some won't get what the concern is about because they have more disposible income than the average fan but they might find the stands pretty sparse next season if this thing takes it up a rung on the socio econimic ladder.

You don't build fan bases with high ticket prices. Pro or college sports already have the fan bases therefore there is a demand for the tickets. At racing event that don't sell out I don't see that same demand. Also, as Stan mentions this is typically a family affair but with those prices people will quickly leave the kids at home which will only hurt the future of the sport.

I have some concerns with it, but anyone not getting paid certainly isn't one of them.

Brennan could pay the entire season's purse without taking in a dollar through the gate and it would barely make a dent in his net worth.

I agree that the ticket prices are probably too high. But maybe they're just testing the waters. If advance sales are low, they can lower the prices.

Just my opionion...

If you say this Cluck named Chuch has such a net worth he would not have to gouge the average blue collar fan who works alot harder for their paycheck than a music promoter who relys on admission & band proceeds to subsidize his promotions. Racing is a total different beast than a bunch of people dancing, screaming and listening to music. As far as I am concerned $35 bucks per night would be acceptable and or a $100 for all 3 night show package & sell the concert tickets on their own night seperately...Maybe it is the Doobie Brothers and Chuck should listen to the music of the race fans.....

You're attempting to justify the pricing by comparing apples and oranges. I know a good many people that go to concerts and a good many people who go to college and pro sporting events. Over 95% of them couldn't find a dirt track if you gave them a map, let alone attend a race when they did find one. I doubt that percentage changes much from coast to coast. They're simply different fan bases from dirt track racing. I did the pro sports occasionally years ago until pricing got rediculous, but I have always been a dirt track fan first. I attended the races on a weekly basis and hit most of the big events within a hundred-fifty miles or so regularly...Knoxville Nationals since '72. I hit many weekly shows, WoO shows and the Gold Cup at Huset's for many years. As the car count went to crap I quit going there. Bottom line I think is this. He doesn't have a clue to understanding sprint car and dirt car fans......where they come from and why they come to the races....or don't come at all.

Actually 41, but close enough....

However, I'm pretty sure California has more wingless cars than South Dakota

Pretty safe guess.
