NW, do you recall if those numbers are just A main wins or do they include preliminary victories too? If I am not mistaken they did not start counting preliminary night wins as A main wins in the stats until a few years ago.

Really?? You have over 1500 posts on this message board and you don't know the answer to your question? Time to spend a little more time learning about the sport and less time posting.

What's the deal, you asked the same question a couple of weeks ago. Not happy with the answers then or trying to stir the pot?

Such a great debate. The King won a ton in an era where driver skill was the higehst differentiator. Schatz wins a ton in a day where driver skill is reduced but the relative competition is much greater.
Good luck figuring this one out. There's too many variables to do so accurately.

I believe Wolfgang & Opp both won over 40. Opp was pre WoO and think Wolfgang was too. Back in the days of true outlaws!

Wolfgangs cars were on display in the HoF at Knoxville and the man had some fantastic years . Noticed in the Weikerts Livestock car he won 17 in a row . Very interesting display and impressive stats. Several years were 40 wins...

All you need to do is ask yourself one question.... Could Steve at 38 years old driving the #15 have as many wins this year as Donny?
To keep the comparision likekind, Steve was 38 in1992 and he won 31 "A's" and that didn't include prelminary races. Steve at the age of 50 had 20 wins in 2005.
I think the answer itself; answers your question.

You've got that wrong actually. Steve won a ton in an era where few teams had really good equipment and teams were still building some of their own stuff especially motors. So equipment it could be rightfully argued was the differentiator back then. Nowadays you have everyone on top notch similar equipment thereby negating the advantage that equipment alone had held for so many years and puts extra demand on driving ability. I say this without any reservation, it's harder to win and be dominant today than it was back in the 70's, 80's and early 90's.
Cheers!

I can agree with this - but still think it was a combination of the two (difference in equipment and driver skill). With the cars more "racy" it typically allowed the cream to rise. Harder to get up front nowadays given the parity in equipment.

We'll never know. Even the cars in 2005 weren't nearly as locked down as they are now. Can't just compare ages, everything about the sport was different than it is now.
