Bringing a group of friends Saturday including 2 guys that have never been to a dirt track race. Sunday night I will be rolling solo. Where are the best places to watch at cedar lake?

Interesting as originally this show was being co-sanctioned with the IRA but looking at the IRA schedule it has been removed. Without the co-sanction I believe you will only get 2-3 IRA guys to show up as the IRA have a Friday night event at the 1/2 mile in Beaver Dam. Still will be a good show at Cedar Lake and the Sunday show should have a larger field as I would think some of the Knoxville guys will come up for Sunday.

In my opinion, the backstretch is the best place to sit at Cedar Lake. Also, I would park back there too. The only downfall of sitting on the backstretch is that if its hot, the sun really beats down on you for about an hour before sunset. Other than that, its spacious, views are good & the concessions are close.

I agree with that previous reply, back stretch is my preferred place to sit. You will want to get there early enough so you can sit up higher in the grandstands. I usually arrive for hot laps and there are plenty of good seats to select from at that time. Plus you have parking in the back lot, a large concession stand there, and easy access to the pits afterwards.

Hey larryitis--wish I could meet up again with you but we are busy that weekend. I have never been to Cedar Lake Speedway before. That being said, I know a handful of people who have been there and some of them say it is their favorite track--although most of them attended Late Model races there. I think you may have picked a good place to take green horn race fans. Report back and let me know how it is.
Until we meet again!

Check out cedarlakespeedway.com for camping information and more. Seeing as it's a two-day show (actually three with Friday's UMSS preliminary night) they're reserving and charging for campsites. The place is 32 miles from the end of my driveway and we've got a family lake home just north of the track if I want to be closer so I won't be camping. I usually spend the night in the infield with the camera and if I do watch any races from the stands it's usually a B Main or Dash from a friend's pitside booth. My first visit to the the track was in 1962 so I've seen the place go through quite a few changes. It's primarily always been a Late Model track with big shows like the USA Nationals and if anyone has been to that one it's always a blast. They'll do things like serve Marge's famous breakfast on Saturday, have buses to the Apple River for anyone who wants to go tubing and a band after the races near the backstretch concession. CLS campsite post race bench racing and bonfires have been known to go on until the sun starts to rise. I've trottled back some now that I'm in my mid 60's but I will still occationally howl at the moon and try not to crash and burn in the lawn chair after the races. CLS is a fun place in a rural setting.
Thanks to Menards not having the composite stair treads in stock my decking delivery was pushed back to a week to ten days which will put it right around race day. The youngest daughter's fiance's band is opening for a group called Alien Ant Farm that Friday so I'm already locked into doing that with the family. Life can get complicated for those of us who are the only racing fan in our family. LOL

PS, I did come out of writer's semi retirement long enough to pen a preview story. This might be of interest to anyone who isn't familiar with the track. http://theracingconnection.com

Where are you going to be? Do you have a reserved campsite? I'm not camping but I'll most likely be there Saturday and Sunday nights.

thanks for the tip on the backstretch, I will definitely do that. there are a few other tracks that I prefer the back also, like knoxville and beaver dam. sometimes it's nice to be right up close to the action and be able to stretch out a little. the forecast looks great right now! I will be camping at interstate park nearby saturday and sunday night. I'm glad someone mentioned the shuttle to apple river, as I have a friend that won a camping/tubing package that can't use it, and wants to give it to me. thinking about using that the weekend of the reichert memorial.

well with the recent rain there is literally a lake inside of cedar lake speedway as the entire infield is under water, looks like it will be a taking and fast track

You better use the tubing deal this weekend. Mid 80's in the forecast and September can be a bit chilly. I'm not even sure if they places are open that late in the season. I haven't tubed the Apple in 30 years.

Look me up in the pits. Most of the track people know me and will point me out.

I live 32 miles east of the track and take pics in the infield. With rain in the forecast for last night and today they would have left the track sealed over. I've got standing water in my back yard and CLS always dries up a little faster than my yard. There is a pond in the infield that they pump their water out of so that's probably pretty full but we had a week or so without any heavy rain before last night. Experience scraping CLS infield mud off my shoes tells me the track, infield and pits will be fine with four days to dry out before Friday night's preliminary UMSS show.
