Hi.

Sprintcar fan here from Australia. Two of us are looking to head over to the states for a two week road trip to see some USA racing. (First time visit to USA to see racing) Dates for our visit are limited between September to November.

We're looking to hire a motor home and travel to a few speedways and local attractions during the week. Camp at the speedways and local camp grounds.

Woo is on the list for one of the weekends but a bit of local racing or even NASCAR race.

First thought was fly into Chicago and head to Eldora then williams grove sept-Oct.

Or fly into California and do the trophy cup and head to Vegas.

There is a few options out there but would like some thoughts from you diehard USA fans as you guys would know your events (local ones too). It's tuff work scrolling the Internet trying to match up dates. But its also interesting reading.

Unfortunately August is out for Knoxville. But I'd prefer to see a few different places other than the big one. Plus we want to get out and see a bit of the country side.

You should seriously consider coming up to Cedar Lake for the Jerry Richert Sr. Memorial.  Brooke Tatnell's wife Amy was Jerry Sr's daughter so Brooke is very involved in helping put this one on.  It's going to be an NSL race this season as well so the driver roster is going to be a good one.  Camping is free for this one, no worries.  Beautiful country setting, give it some thought.  Tatnell and Ian Madsen will be in the house along with McCarl, Lasoski and a bunch of great drivers.  wink

If I were you, I'd visit the west coast and follow the Outlaw swing down through Washington, Oregon and California. Then you could spend the rest of the time seeing what is possibly our most beautiful state (California). It would mean some driving, but you'd see 3 amazing states and some fine sprint car racing (including the Gold CUp). Here is the schedule:

Fri. Sept. 4

Monster Meltdown

Skagit Speedway
Alger, Wash.

We're abouts are these events and their dates.

Once September starts the mid-week options for racing start to dwindle because the kids are back in school and our summer is over.

The West Coast swing dsc1600 listed is a great option. I live on the East Coast but did that trip last year and it was incredible. If you're interested in seeing the countryside like you say, I'd recommend visiting Olympic National Park and North Cascades National Park before the week of racing starts in Washington. I skipped some of the mid-week shows to drive down the Oregon and California coastline on route 101 before going to the Gold Cup as it's a really nice scenic, and you can also fit in San Francisco, Yosemite National Park, or Lake Tahoe in after the racing is all over.

If you do Chicago to Eldora and then the National Open at Williams Grove you could also see a NASCAR race at Dover, Delaware the following Sunday. It's easy to get tickets for that and it's only a couple hours from Williams Grove. After that you could see the sites in Washington DC or New York City if that's something you're trying to fit in the trip. If you'd still want more racing after all that Super Dirt Week starts at a few tracks in the Syracuse, New York the following Wednesday night http://superdirtweekonline.com. The weather can be cold as hell and the big final modified race on the Syracuse mile isn't too thrilling, but there are races at smaller tracks Wed/Thu/Fri nights all close by with the modifieds and World of Outlaws.

If you have any questions fire away.

Contact Greg Densley over there. He and son Adrian did the trip with motorhome a couple of years ago. Although they were here in July/August, around the midwest. He can tell you what works, what doesn't, etc. with traveling. Believe Greg lives in Sale or Traralgon, East of Melbourne. They race one of the wingless, V6 cars. His daughter, Lauren is married to Gav White, one of the announcers at Warnambool. That West coast swing sounds great. Once you get outside the big cities, you'll find the real USA. If you were to do the West coast tour, you could simply fly into LA or San Francisco.

The West Coast would allow you to see not only the W of O's but some great non-wing racing and 360 racing as well.  The view in California, anywhere ain't too shabby either, great State with great fans.....

Nascar race is in Chicago on September 20th and the 25-26 is the 4 crown at Eldora which includes the Outlaws and the All Stars on friday night and the best non wing action anywhere on Saturday. Chicago is one of the coolest places in the world, so finding things to do would not be an issue . Plus the weather should still be decent then .

I have lived in Cali, Midwest, East Coast and now Arkansas and have been very fortunate to be able to attend a majority of the big races.  You have two options IMO.

1) Eldora (4 Crown Nationals) and Williams Grove (National Open);  Fly into Cincinnati or Indianapolis and fly out of Philly.  Eldora, you get the best of both worlds with WoO and all 3 USAC divisions, it's a fantastic track, awesome camping/tailgating and great racing.  Williams Grove racing is ok but they have some of the most passionate and knowable fans in the country.  The bonus is the track has the best tailgating/camping/party in the nation.  You will have a blast all day and night starting on Tuesday.  Be sure to check out Beer Hill, the infield, the live auctions, chili feed, keg kickball and more.  If the Posse beats the WoO, the place goes nuts.  It's like a college football game with us vs them with the PA Posse vs WoO invaders.  They just expanded this race to 3 days.

2)  The WoO West Coast swing in Sept;  You get to see 7 races in 10 days at some awesome bullrings.  You fly into Seattle, rent an RV and fly out of San Fran.  You don't quite get the tailgate/camping/fan experience as historic Eldora & WG,  but the West Coast drivers vs the WoO drivers puts on some the best racing you will see anywhere.  Also some of the most beautiful parts of North America are along the coast line.

I have been to all these places so free to reach out with questions.

Save your money up and come over the  next summer for racing instead, and for longer than 2 weeks. 2 weeks, you just barely get acclimated to being here, and you have to turn around and go back home.

I came to Australia many years ago for 2 1/2 weeks on my first trip over despite many telling me to come for a longer stay. I had no idea what I was getting myself into at the time, and once I get there I suddenly understood why everyone suggested a longer stay.

The next trip I went for 8 weeks, and that still wasnt long enough!

Dates for a trip would be 2016. 2 weeks possibly an extra week but depends on the boss and kids.

West coast is sounding good. I have done the west coast back packing so I'm familiar with this area.

Didnt do any speedway tho when I was there. I did enjoy San Francisco reminded me a bit of melbourne.

Plus I did Vegas  (It's an interesting place).

Im thinking a motorhome would be a cheaper option than motels.

Vanhos, I'm visiting from Aus this year, Have an RV booked for 10 nights in July through Ohio. Small Rv that sleeps 5 is about $325/night.

Depends on how many of you there are and what your intending on doing as to weather the RV is the best option for you.

National Open

Short Track Nationals

Oval Nationals

If those dates make sense, then thats what I would do.  If you are coming to America and have two weeks in a motor home, you can see almost everything America has to offer.  The landscape changes drastically from West to East and its all beautiful in its on own.

I remember in my nascar days, I had to drive from Charlotte to California and had a week to do it.  I was able to hit up four sprint car races in one week.  Everything from WoO in Charlotte, to USCS in Greenville, MS to 305s in Amarillo and then nonwing at the PAS all while stopping in New Orleans, Grand Canyon, Tombstone, and Hollywood.

It was awesome...
