If I were you, I'd visit the west coast and follow the Outlaw swing down through Washington, Oregon and California. Then you could spend the rest of the time seeing what is possibly our most beautiful state (California). It would mean some driving, but you'd see 3 amazing states and some fine sprint car racing (including the Gold CUp). Here is the schedule:

Fri. Sept. 4

Monster Meltdown

Skagit Speedway
Alger, Wash.

Looks great. Spend a week stoned out of your head in Washington, head to Oregon where you can listen to how bad California is for a night, head to Chico and fry in 130 degree weather for 4 days then get shot dead in Antioch by hotlaps.

We're used to the heat from oz. What's the weather like in September for Eldora, williams grove. Would be pushing into colder weather wouldn't it?

Late Sept, early Oct average temp for the Grove is low 60's to high 50's (F)....two years ago it was in the 70's during the National Open.

Average nightly low temperatures National Open weekend at the Grove is about 10C. For that two week trip bring everything from shorts to sweatshirts.
