Front Row Challenge to Pay $20,000 to Win in 2015!

Windom, MN (December 10, 2014) – An already prestigious event just got a lot bigger!  In honor of its 20th Anniversary, the Casey’s General Stores/Musco Lighting Front Row Challenge presented by Don Long’s Searsboro Telephone Company at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa will now pay $20,000 to win!  In addition, a number of bonuses and contingencies could make the winner’s share much more!  The event will be held on Monday, August 10.

The Front Row Challenge, which will be sanctioned by the National Sprint League will again feature 410 sprint cars.  “This is the 20th Anniversary of the Front Row Challenge and we wanted to do something special,” says event promoter Terry McCarl.  “This is such a special event, and we want to be one of the top ten paying 410 races in the country.  Making this event $20,000 to win does that for us!  Fans are going to see not only the best drivers of the National Sprint League, but some of the best drivers in the world in Oskaloosa going for a $20,000 paycheck and the championship belt!”

A number of incentives will insure that.  The event will offer $1,000 bonuses for the best finishing driver from both California and Pennsylvania.  Cars from both regions have traditionally been a big part of the Front Row Challenge.  “Morrie Williams and the #0 team from California never missed a Front Row Challenge in which we ran 410’s,” says McCarl.  “The drivers from central Pennsylvania have been great here.  Daryn Pittman won in a car from Pennsylvania, and Lance Dewease won it twice.  Jeff Shepard won the race twice as well.”

The race is also known for its contingencies, awarded to all heat winners, B winner and various other promotions throughout the night.  Also, 2015 will see the return of the Keith Hutton/TK Concrete “King of the Hill” Match Race.  It will not only pay $1,000 to the winner, but determine the pole-sitter.  The unique event matches the top eight qualifiers through the heats in one-on-one two-lap match races.

But the biggest change is the winner’s share.  The $20,000 check will go to the winner of the race, and will not be based on a challenge to come from the back as in year’s past.

Tickets go on sale to advanced ticket holders for renewal on February 2.  Remaining tickets will go on sale to the public on Monday, March 23.  Fans will benefit from ordering their tickets in advance. Advance tickets are just $25, with tickets purchased the day of the race costing $30.

So it's not really a front row challenge next year.  I'm fine with that.  It's nearly impossible for that to happen today anyway and quite frankly the race was losing it's luster.  The bigger guaranteed payday should draw more good cars again.  Going back to 410s is the right move too.  Thumbs up to TMac and Laurie.

Every change here seems to be a good move. I also think its okay that it wont have an actual front row challenge as the chances in a very competitive field of 410s is very slim. 2015 is shaping up to be a great year for 410 sprintcars in the midwest.

Haven't been to Osky in over 5 years....this change (410's and big purse $$$ which will in-turn draw a lot fo good cars) may just entice me to buy tickets again.

The NSL is looking like a great alternative for those drivers outside the Top 6 or 7 in WoO points after the first CA swing to me....

Looking forward to my 20th consecutive Front Row Challenge. I honestly thought the racing last year was the best it's been in a while. I still wish they would move in the corners a bit more to make it wider.

I'd expect a huge turn out.

I miss the non wing race on Tuesday night. Never will forget the race between Hockett and Darland.

I agree wholeheartedly. I am curious as to why some promoter in Iowa or surronding states doesn't schedule a USAC sprint race in the week before or after the Nationals, to attract USAC to once again take part in The Ultimate Challenge. I feel the loss of this race caused much of the decline in attendance last year.

If I remember correctly, USAC was in NE a couple days prior just LAST SEASON, yet they didn't want to race at Osky due to how "far away" it was with no other races in the area (even though the teams had to drive back through IA to get to Indiana....)

Agreed! The racing surface at Osky is a bit narrow for sprintcars at times. Even so the racing last year wasnt bad and the sprint invaders show in the spring at osky was excellent! Hopefully the track doesnt chunk up as much as it did last year though. She got rough in turn 3.

They were at Eagle on May 2, and McCool Jct. on May 3rd.  Hardly a couple days prior and passing through IA to get to Indiana.  The closes to the Nationals was a date on July 19 at Haubstadt and August 22 at Kokomo.  Not a very sensible move to bring the whole group all the way to Oskaloosa for a one night stand on Tuesday.  As usual, you are not as  much of an expert as you claim to be.  Just saying.  lol

My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

The drivers were @ Belleville....and the guys that race for the same team in Sprints & midgets use the same trailer for it all.  They drove back through IA on their way back to Indiana....

Maybe it's just hte crappy way USAC schedules (they even make their own drivers (that race in all divisions) put on tons of miles to race a midget one night, a sprint the next and a Silver Crown a few days later.   USAC could race at Osky, they choose not to IMO.  Why have a high paying event when you can have a $1500 to win event at Bloomington or Paragon...

Yeah....and the race between Hockett, Chappell and Gaines was every bit that good as it shaped up

Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.

I bet they have no issue with driving to Iowa for a one day show @ Iowa Speedway in June....(that pays LESS than the Ulitimate Challenge did).

My takeaway from this is that Terry should've done this years ago... when the 410 counts were headed down (before it was switched to 360)... and hindsight is 20/20... so better late than never!  It should pump some juice back into this race... much needed juice!  Also, Vande shows his true colors again... days, months, clues... get them when you can!

My take is that the NSL was just formed this year

This is the myth you'll hear alot on IOW. USAC had a 2 day show at Osky in 2012, got 23 cars for it. They had a show at Knoxville in 2011, then Osky 2 days later, 26 cars showed.

The year before USAC showed up to sanction, 46 cars in the pits. Went on a decline ever since.

agreed this is proubly what needed to happen, the extra L$$T will attract teams, and NSL involvement will move this thing right along well, ive been a bit let down the few times i have attended and all i hear is how huge of a deal this was years ago, the atmosphere of the FRC was there  it just seems like a party that went sour like somebody got drunk and went over the line, you kno a buzzkill type deal, anyway, if the  "nonwing fans" seem to be in full attention on this deal for years, some really seam to enjoy it , honestly its kinda a unique perspetive on nationals week with the nonwing cars running, why not turn the challenge race to the nonwing cars? is it achieveable? would some drivers possibly take that type handicap? it seems to me (im no expert) some of the nonwing cars are extreemly strong , there is tons of different formulas developed by racers and promotors over the years to provide a fan with entertainment, selecting a guide one fan can follow to be "invested" without a book of explination of qualification  is a difficult task .. at anyrate , I think its going to be well attended this year, lets hope the nonwing cars recieve some hype to promote thier exhistance as well.

So are the Outlaws gonna allow their "members" to race? Competing series, within a certain amount of miles and hours.... Seems like a race they'd frown on to me. With it being Nationals week, even without those 10-15 cars I imagine a great turnout.
