My daughter found out today they have to pay $115 for my 6 month old grand daughter to be able to sit on her Mom's lap. That's 3 days at child prices and full price on Saturday.  I'm sorry but that is a crock of Sh!t..... Greed has no conscious. frown

Babysitter... about $20 a night.  And her mom will love not having to deal with her.  She won't remember who won anyway.

Kidding aside... trust me, after night 1 your daughter would rather not go than ever try and take an infant again to the races, let alone the Nationals.

Is a 6 month old a little young to bring anyway?  I wouldn't really care to sit next to a parent holding their child. But hey what do I know anyway.

Hawker, and I bet it was at Tulsa Speedway back when general admission was only a dollar.

I don't know where you are from but where I'm from in every major sporting event every person that attends the event must have a ticket, regardless of age.  It is t just  Knoxville Raceway thing.

I'll chime in on this.

FIrst off, $115 seems very steep.  It seems steep for a 6 YEAR old, let alone a 6 month old.

That said, and I mean no disrespect to you or your daughter Paintboss... but why in the world would anyone want to bring a 6 month old to the races?  For starters, it would seem the races would be awfully loud for such a young set of ears.

Then you have the people sitting around you.  There is no 6 month baby on this earth that will sit conent in a mothers lap for the entire race program.  It's going to get fussy and start crying or squirming around.  Because there is no actual seat for the baby, there's no room to move around... especially after you throw in the space the diaper bag and whatever else they have takes up.   At a race like Naitonals where it's packed, it sounds like a recipe for a bunch of annoyed/pissed off race fans who are sitting around this.  I guess if this was low on the backstretch where there's a bunch more room it'd make things easier?

I dont know.  I'm a father and love to take my kids to the races.  But they were older when I started doing that.  Old enough they could actually remember it anyways.  I just never have understood the need to take them that young.  That was time for mommy and daddy to go have some fun and catch a little break from the young ones.

I have no clue what KNoxville does for a kids pricing on a regular race, but maybe they purposly jack up National to discourage really young ones from coming?  I know we need the next generation of race fans, but not every race is well suited for them to be at.

Again, don't take it personal Paintboss, just my opininon on it.

So, your planning on holding the baby bag and everthing else on your lap too?  I've seen TONS of babies in the stands during Nationals and provided they don't bring in 2 baby bags I've never seen them tell a parent that their baby can't get in for free (now, if you're bringing in a stroller, baby bag, etc. that takes up a seat that you should have to pay for IMO).

I am not sure I would take a six month old to the Nationals but a regular weekly show I see no problem. Believe it or not some families actually do things with their kids rather than shove them off on a baby sitter  and the kids will always remember it. Where I go every week (Port Royl Speedway) they actually encourage family participation. free under twelve and $5 for 12 to eighteen. From some responces it seems a six month old would bother them more than a drunk. I would much rather be puked on by a six month old who doesn't know better than a drunk who should.

I've taken my son to the Nationals since he was 5 and I've never had a problem paying the $$$ it costs for his ticket.  It's entertainment and he enjoys them (To me, I get my $$$'s worth and we spend the week together going to the races and bonding - hopefully he'll still want to come in a couple years when he's a teenager).

I know that it's your baby (and if it's your first you don't want to leave them anywhere), but I find it hard to believe that they would say anything about a baby when you walk in unless they are in a carseat (that will take a seat in the grandstand), stroller (that will take up a seat in the grandstand), or you have diaper bags with you (that will take up seating).

I saw a stroller last year that someone took to the middle of a row about 25 rows up and got mad because someone told them, that's my seat, the stroller has to go or you do.  (they only purchased 1 ticket and were using 3 seats).

Agreed! Bringing a child that young should almost be considered a a crime, the potential ear damage alone should be enough to legally charge the parent with child endangerment! I went races too young in life and I know my hearing is most likely not what it should be.  Not to mention all those rock concerts I went to, at least I had a choice for those LOL.  Leave the kid at home and don't irritate the fans around you, please have some repect for your fellow racefans.  And if the $115 pisses you off, buy that extra seat and at the very least you have ample space you need.

Actually I was generalizing when I said 6mo, She is actually 9mo old and seems to be pretty content and entertained at the races, even with her ear muffs on!. She is held all the while at the races by more than one family member and as far as a diaper bag! Is that any different than a guy bringing in at least a diaper sized cooler full of booze disguised as Coca Cola! We have no problem paying but FULL ADULT PRICE. If that's justified then like I said this isn't about family fun, It's more about the Benjamins. We are on the backstretch and when is the last time there was not hundreds of open seats back there on Saturday night.

Really? Taking a 6 month old to a race like this is the "Crock of Sh!t" not the fact they want to charge 115 bucks. Have fun dealing with a cranky baby for 4 nights in packed stands pissing everybody off around you.

The airlines are as greedy as can be ($ for "premium snacks", $ for the priviliege of boarding first, $ for extra leg room) and they don't charge for kids under 2. We went to Yankee Stadium last year and didn't have to buy a ticket for our under 2 year old. Seems silly the Knoxville is charging full price. As far as the noise go, headphones will drown out most of the noise. We took our little one to her first race earlier this summer and she had headphones. She took them off for about thirty seconds, said it was "too loud" and put them back on.

Kids tickets have been full price on Saturday Night since I was a kid (40 years ago).  It's not anything new.  THey get in half price the other 3 days.

It's your choice whether you pay it and bring htem or don't pay it and don't bring them.  I wouldn't trade the $50 for not being able to see Saturday night with my son personally (but he's 11 now and making his 6th Saturday of Nationals).
