King's Speedway in California is the latest to make the switch from 360's to the IMCA Racesaver Sprints. They have already placed their first order for the Racesaver engines. And NO, not the $20k+ ones. The reasonably priced ones.
I am lucky enough to work at one of the best tracks
anywhere.

Are all of these race saver series a winged series ? Ive seen a spec sprint race at Watsonville and they did not have wings . Are these the same sort of sprint.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

I hope this can make its way up north to Marysville and Placerville. Could eventually make a regional or national for the west coast.

Actually they are not switching as the track does not currently have a track championship/weekly racing sprint car division. They are going to create a weekly sprint car division with the 305's. The track will continue to host both wing and nonwing 360 and 410 traveling series.

Eagle pit,,,, Why are you so concerned about those crate cars? Just seeing what you can stir up in the off season?
Keep em in Cali!!!!

I'm concerned because I want to see the class grow and proliferate. And the IMCA Racesaver sprints are already run in several states with more tracks signing on all the time.
As for them being slow, about 1 second a lap less than the ASCS 360's under very similar track conditions at Eagle Raceway. I doubt VERY greatly that anyone can tell the difference.

If you can't tell the difference then you are both blind and deaf. They are both visibly and auditorilary slower (especially in the corners). Further more, if they are that similar why have a separate class... Let them run those imitation sprintcars with the 360's for more $$$.
Any experienced sprint car car fan can instantly tell the difference in 305's and 360's. And to put it in further perspective, let's say they are only a second a lap slower (which I think is very generous). Over a 30 lap race that means they are getting lapped approximately 2 1/2 times by a 360.... And you can say with a straight face you can't tell the difference? Laughable scam at best.

But, they aren't racing with the 360's. Plus they aren't imitation, they are real sprint cars. I can refer you to our 6-time sprint car track champion for his opinion on the matter if you'd like since he raced the new class this past season and enjoyed it quite thoroughly.
And my sight and hearing are just fine; but thank you for your concern.

Just like velveeta is an imitation cheese substitute... 305's are an imitation sprint car substitute. They are similar to the real deal, just not quite the same.
You can try until you are purple faced to convince sprint car fans that 305's are the same as 360's but you will only be fooling yourself.

There are many different types of open wheel racing. Sprint car racing doesn't need 3 and now 4 (if you count Osweken's crate class debut) classes of cars. This type of thing is starting to kill late model racing. I often wonder if the ploy is for tracks to replace 360's or 410's to pay the small purse the 305's race for. There are exceptions, and if a non-traditonal market needed 305's to establish a sprint car presensce then I understand that aspect. I just don't see where mulitple layers of sprint cars is healthy at all to the sport. For me personally, I would never go to a 305 only race the same as I would never go to a crate late model or similar analogy race. There are mini sprints, TQs, midgets and everything inbetween to help cats move up the chain.

Once again I am reminded how fortunate I am to live in IRA Country. Real 410 sprints with plenty of action.
We also have the MSA 360's but they are definatly slower but still fun to watch. Anything less would not fly here.

I am excited to see what happens with Plymouth and their trying to get together a group for running 'new'old times mods. The one with rules, low costs, just like the old days. I'm just pissed that Wilmot couldn't have jumped on this bandwagon. It will be interesting. I know, I know, not sprints. I want good racing, not one winner like in Nascar and the IRA....I'm just sayin'

After watching 305s and 360s both run at Devil’s Bowl at the winter nationals. I can say there is not much of a difference in the quality of racing when they are each on the track in their own groups. Both put on a great show on the large track. Now if there was a 305 in a 360 race could I tell the difference? Maybe depending on track conditions. I watched a 305 run in an OCRS (360 2bbl) event in Oklahoma in April and the car finished second in the A main. The track was dry and slick, plus the car had a really good driver in it. I also was at the 360 Knoxville Nationals. They ran 305s as a support class to the 360s. But the 305 that was quick time for the night would have been in the top 10 times for the 360s.

Just wondering if promoters are just looking for a cheaper class?
I assume less 305s are going to get paid less than the 360s they are replacing?

305s get paid less up front but from 6th back it's not much diff. 125.-305. to start. ASCS gets 250.-300. to start regional &400. Nat. ASCS car is about 60k+ to build, Racesaver is under 20k
