I'm not the biggest Billy Alley fan by any means. But he is a good kid, a good driver, and awesome with kids in the pit area after the races. In my opinion the Vermeer 55 car is a pile. I hope they turn things around, but what a disappointing season so far for them.
Madsen made the 55 car go fast, but let's face it, Madsen is one of the best driver/mechanics today. Madsen may not have the accolades of Wolfgang or Sammy, but I think he's in the same conversation as those 2 guys. He can figure out a way to make anything go fast.
It's been sad watching Billy relagated to running in the back of the pack at Knoxville the past couple of weeks like a wounded duck. He's got too much talent to be wasting it like this. If I was Billy, I'd be working on the yellow car in the garage at home and taking it to Knoxville the next couple of weeks. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Thoughts .... how about AMEN !!! I am simply amazed by the $$$ behind the 55 and some of the cars that finished in front of Billy last night. (and other nights too) The 56,19, 47T entire operations added together wouldn't buy the 55's hauler and trailer. Billy may have a career in the NHL as he certainly has spent the last 6 months in the "penalty box."

It is hard to read this post and not respond. I have been a faithful knoxville fan for only about 9 or 10 years now but I can honestly say that Billy Alley is one of the few drivers that is a class act. Watching him have sucessful season after sucessfu season has been fun the past couple of years. And watching him this past year has just been unbearable. We all know Billy Alley can win races and put on a show for the crowd. I guess the question is, why can't the owner see what the problem is this season? When Kerry was in the car he did good, but never could he compete with the Outlaws like he has been doing this year. After Kerry left the team the cars have been junk... what is the owner not seeing?

Who says it's the owners fault or anyones for that matter ... confidence is infectious ... right now the team is fresh out of it... the team owner can't change his gear ... the crew chiefs doing his best ... they have top cars ... Schatz has no problem winning in the same one, Alley himself won the year before in the same chassis ... they have had a few motor issues ... maybe it's time Billy moved himself on... there is no doubting Billy's ability sometimes it just don't work out ...

Few motor problems? Didnt his "crew" forget to put gas in the car a couple of weeks ago? When is the last time this car or crew has won a race?
Either way, car or crew- night after night they all seem determined to get better. I guess thats all you can ask for when you are in Billy's shoes.

I watched him race last sunday at i-80 in a late model. I heard he had never drove one before. He started almost last and finished 7th... he can drive and my child is a fan of his for life.

I find something funny. I am not much of a betting man. But I'd wager a fair amount on the fact that 99% of the people on here trash talking would be hard pressed to Walk up to Tony Vermeer and say half the crap your saying to his face! I always find it hard to believe that people hiding behind a computer always have the answers. It's not from a lack of spending money that they are not doing well. It takes teams a year or so to get going well. Hopefully everything pans out and they learn a bunch this season and carry that knowledge over to next season!

I'm am not a Billy Alley fan much at all but I have to agree with he should be doing better in the car. I think the crew and car owners just have too much of a fondness for Kerry and think anyone else who gets in the car is nothing compaired to Kerry. Thus, making it harder on the driver to get heard on what he thinks might be a problem. You know, things like, 'It isn't working up top you need to change this.' Then in the heads of the crew. (Well, Kerry always use to be able to run it with this set up, up high on this kind of surface)
Ricky wasn't running that well either in the car last year. I think for the same reasons.
Just a thought from my Big Hole. Might not have anything to do with it or maybe a small part. Just a small thought from me.

It is kind of hard to say anything to Tony Vermeer face to face when he hasn't even been at the speedway for the past two weeks. Bring him on!!!!!

Motor Problems? It has been motor problems and crew chief screw-ups every night. It is obvious who the real crew chief was when the car was driven by Kerry Madsen. WAKE UP TONY!!!!

Well it just shows that a drivers ability means less in a winged car than a non wing car! look how JJ Yeley jumped in Smileys sprinter at Las Vegas and brought it from last to the front and he had never even sat in the thing before! His talent came to the front in a car he had No input on to speak of.

FanForLife are you interested in spending some big money and start a team? I am gonna go out on a limb and say you are just another armchair quarterback. Easy to spend another man's money. Just not your own. Racing costs money. Things break. Things go wrong. Have you ever made a mistake? Of course not. Damn it.... I hate perfect people with money.

Its hard to say what the real problem is but with Billy's proven talent, we know he has to be big time disappointed this year. I bet if the opportunity came up, he would jump at the chance of getting back in the 17g car! Let's just hope the 55 Team can pull together for the Nationals.

I would love to see Billy bring his yellow 22 back out. I bet he would be wicked fast. I think the crew chief of the 55 is like a 21 year old. Which is fine, but people, in time they will get everything going good. Everything takes time. Maybe Vermeer and crew can dig Billy's 22 out and start over with that. Now that would be a hell of an idea.

Gary, you can't be serious! After the Trop Artic 66 ride, Alley's brought out their own 22 car and won features and Billy put it in the A main at the Knoxville Nationals. Billy's crew chief on the family 22 car, Bob Richardson, is a well seasoned smart veteran crew chief. Bob and Billy seem to work really well together. Ed Gifford, obviously seen Billy's talent and put him in the 17g last year. All they did is win the Knoxville 410 Championship and made the A main for the Knoxville Nationals. I wouldn't write him off just yet.
